What is a Hypocrite?

Well?

Is it someone who says one thing and does another?

I have heard people complain all my life that they do not go to church because of "all the hypocrites."

Can a person gain a reputation for being one and that is the worst part?

Will God judge the chronic hypocrite or the one-time hypocrite on a vital issue more critically?

I'm just adding this definition for the sake of discussion.

hyp·o·crite –noun

1. a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.

2. a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.

I have also heard people say they don't go to church because of all the hypocrites but I would rather go to church with them than to go to Hell with them.

To me a hypocrite is a person that pretends to be something they aren't.

Hmmmm I don't get what you mean. I am just saying that if a person's only excuse for not attending church in that there are hypocrites then they should know that there are definitely going to be hypocrites in Hell.

When I became a part of the Pentecostal Church someone wrote me a note with this in it. I carried the note for 15 years... not sure why...

Well the Bible says to let the tares grow up with the wheat lest by pulling up the tares you uproot the wheat. So to me that is saying that there are going to be people in church who are not what they pretend to be. You can't quit going to church because of this. You can only go on and do what you know to do. One day God will pluck out the tares and cast them into the fire. I don't want to go with them into the fire.

This is a good thought.
I find that hypoccrites are not only in the church. They are everywhere that we may go. It is merely a part of life.

Whitened sepulchres filled with dead men's bones. The wheat and tares may grow together but the tares shouldn't be allowed to participate in ministry/church leadership.
