Deacon Blues

I just want to tell you about my husband's and mine day in Memphis last week.

We picked up our loved one and went to Gus' World famous fried chicken and had lunch. We enjoyed that chicken immensely! Then we went on to our rather late doctor's appointment and we were in there for about 2 hours.

Afterwards and before it got dark, we took a drive to see where your church building is located. We got out and peered through the front door and to see what time the services start.

I just want you to know that I know you feel heartache a lot being a pastor, but you will never know how many hearts you touch when you write certain articles and post them here. It is not enough to just be a pastor, but to be a disciple of Christ is what is most important. While I do not agree with some of your political views, I believe that you are a disciple of Christ in that you have love towards people. I believe that you reach out to people who hurt. Political views are unimportant because politics are not absolute and subject to change as the political winds change every four years. But discipleship to Christ is absolute and most important in my humble opinion.

The Memphis area is a large and dangerous place and not every man wants to minister in a dangerous place. I just want you to know that you and your family are special and to encourage you that you are making a difference in a place that desperately needs more people like you to love with Christlike love to a people who need Christ.

Re: Deacon Blues

I plan on meeting Deacon Blues in person soon and am looking forward to it as I have always enjoyed his keen insights on AFF.

You are correct that pastoring in general and especially in places like Memphis is a tough and many times thankless calling.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Thanks AYR! I've been out of town for several days and just read this. What day did you stop by? We live in the house behind the church.
