Fruit Of The Spirit

But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. GALATIANS 5:22-23

Soooo... I decided every month, I'm goin to work on each of my fruit.. This month will be LOVE!!! Im goin to work on loving my family and friends and reaching out to love even people I don't know, And also loving God more! (one of the fruit should be forgiveness I think... have to work on that one anyways!!)

Good for you! His Spirit and His fruit working in the life of a believer is a glorious thing.

AP,

The fruit of the spirit are probably the most under taught / preached thing in the bible yet one of the most important.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Fruit Of The Spirit

Attempting to love your jerk of a neighbor is FAR tougher than following some fly-by-night holiness standard. Thus, listening to preaching about following the fly-by-night holiness standard will always get a lot more "amens!" then preaching about loving your jerk of a neighbor.

I'm sorry, but WHAT? You're kind of confusing me? I mean yeah, it's hard to love people who are mean to you, but didn't Jesus? I'm sure your "jerk of a neighbor" STILL doesnt treat you as badly as Jesus was treated, yet he still died for them, died for US, and died for the generations to come. therefore, the Bible says "God so LOVED the world" so if God had enough love for us to die for us, how can it be so had to love people enough to forgive them? We're not called to die for them, but to LOVE them

Re: Fruit Of The Spirit

Those nine fruit, along with the other three, make a tree of life-
also an interesting study. You currently may choose a fruit at random to improve, but may come to one fruit leading to another, and back, as they are interconnected. Deep sacrifice may be necessary to fully realize some aspects of a fruit fully, and bed-time mental reviews can reveal...what I could only call 'sacrificial roads not taken,' complete with the more Spirit-filled outcomes, which might be practiced 'next time.' And ther's going to be a 'next time,' too--usually right when it's most inconvenient. : )

I'm not sure what is so confusing. When your "jerk of a neighbor" is constantly putting his garbage can in front of your drive way, which no doubt irritates most people to no end, and your required to love him as a brother is preached, do you give a hearty "Amen!!!"? Or would you rather run the isles when the pastor gives a hard sermon on holiness standards that you KNOW many are not following, but you can say "Amen!!" because you know YOU are and they aren't?
It doesn't effect you in the least when another woman is cutting (gasp!) her hair but your not. But it sure does give you license to look down on her!

Darlin, I had no idea somebody would take anything the wrong way that's God's been dealin with me over. Maybe you could move his garbage can over and love him anyway. And I don't look down on anybody because I know I have been in the same situation as a lot of people. I had somebody with me that loved me through my tough times and I'm here to do the same. t
