Obama Bragging About Bin Laden=Nixon &Moon Landing
Imagine if President Nixon had decided to base his 1972 reelection campaign on the boast that he landed on the moon. His predecessors tried and failed for eight years. It wasn't an easy decision. What if something went wrong? What would George McGovern have done?
When Obama came out with his ad bragging about killing BIn Laden featuring Bill Clintom (who passed up on Bin Laden when given the chance) he was doing the equivalent of the hypothetical above. I love what Mitt Romney said in response to the absurd notion that he wouldn't have done it if given the chance. "Even Jimmy Carter would have given that order."
Obama deserves credit for making the right choice. But like the moon landing, the killing of Bin Laden was merely the result of efforts that preceded Obama's arrival in the White House. Obama never would have had the opportunity to do the right thing had it not been for the extraordinary work done by the military, CIA and others during the Bush administration.
Some of the Navy SEALs who actually killed Bin Laden are criticizing the president for politicizing the raid. Even Ariana Huffington has criticized the president for the ad. Obama should let the Bin Laden raid speak for itself. By bragging about it nonstop, he comes across as insecure and weak.
John McCain said last week, "I've had the great honor of serving in the company of heroes. And, you know the thing about heroes, they don't brag."
