Re: Condoleezza Rice
well, she would be a double minority ---black and female
I worked for years at General Electric.
Because they receive government money they are under great pressure to have strong "affirmative action" policies.
Two examples come to mind:
1. Several years ago I was contacted by someone I worked with at GE because he was going to be doing some hiring. We had worked together, he knew what kind of a worker I was, and he was trying to get an idea if I would be interested in the job or not. When he found out that I was already above that job level there was no question that I would not be interested. He did tell me something interesting. He and I are both white. He was under pressure to hire a "minority." He told me if he hired a female or an African American he would get "a star" but if he hired an African American female he would get "two stars."
2. More recently a person I used to work with before my retirement met some of us retirees for lunch. He had been to a meeting that morning and they had been told that they need to actively recruit, hire, and promote more LGBT's.
Ms. Rice would be, in my opinion, well qualified for VP because of her experience as Secretary of State under George W. Bush. BUT, I'm sure there would be a lot of people who would dismiss her as being a "token" black/woman. And many would just consider her an attempt by Republicans to pull some African American voters and some women voters from the current President.
And, if Hillary becomes Barack Obama's running mate in 2012, it would be considered by many to just be a ploy to ensure the votes of women. Also it could assure her the run for President in 2016.
P.S. I am not a Hillary fan but I think she would have done better than the current guy.
