Romney vs. Obama: Let The Race Begin!

Although not the official nominee, we have now entered the phase of the race where both Romney and Obama will be effectively running against each other. Romney has obstacles before him: it's always a disadvantage to be running against an incumbent, Obama has raised mountains of cash while Romney has had to spend much of his war chest on the primaries, Romney has to overcome the image of being a flip-flopper, he has a skeptical conservative wing (Tea Party, Evangelicals) in his party and he is lagging in the women's vote in key swing states.

Obama has his challenges as well. There's the high unemployment and lagging economy. There's the high gas prices and the image that he's not providing any real, reasonable leadership on the issue of energy independence. His favorability numbers have been hovering in the mid-40% range for several months. Gallup had him at 46% Tuesday. The national debt has exploded under his leadership and he has offered no real solutions to this overshadowing problem. His position is to raise taxes on the rich and protect the status quo on entitlements, the very reason we are going bankrupt. His two monumental achievements this term, Stimulus and Obamacare, have the perception of the first being a failure and the second being highly unpopular, crammed down Americans throats in spite of wide opposition to it and probably will be deemed illegal by the SCOTUS in June. Obama is not seen as an economic genius but a social scientist who is willing to impose tectonic shifts to the American way of life.

In the end this election will be about the economy. And four years of Obama have shown that he is in over his head at a critical time in our history. In spite of Romney's vulnerabilities, his track record for turning failing companies around, turning the Salt Lake City Olympics around and his success as a businessman and entrepreneur will give him leverage to defeat Obama in the Fall. It's going to get ugly and it's going to get dirty because there is a lot at stake. But when the smoke clears and the dust settles, Romney I predict will emerge victorious. And it will not come at a better time. His first four years will be critical in turning our economy around and downsizing the breadth and scope of government. I believe in the end Americans may vote less for Romney and instead will vote to prevent four more years of liberal, socialist experiments and upheavals to American ideals.
