Depressed?

Ok, turns out you are a collection of something like 1000 different species, most of them in your gut. You have ten times more bacteria than cells in your body, and it can be fairly said that as far as your body is concerned, you are sharing it with bacteria for just as long as they let you.

These bacteria have a direct line to the brain via the vagus nerve, and can/will alter your brain chemistry, via cytokines, trytophan (precursor for serotonin, bad gut=lower tryptophan=lower serotonin=depressed).

The jury is starting to come back in in this area, and the verdict is increasingly "feed your bacteria properly, or about 999 of you are not going to be happy."

Consider probiotics, any way you can get them, and investigate how you might be killing your bacteria without meaning to, and overcome depression! Deficiencies in Omega 3 and Vitamin D, both essential nutrients that have been stripped from our food supply and that YOU are almost surely deficient in if you are not supplementing, will have similar effects.

Can't believe Jack is still giving it away, wow. The "NR" archives provide a wealth of nutrition info, with nothing to buy.

If you are knocking on the stomach, you might just disturb a meditating Buddha.

Re: Depressed?

I would say that this attitude would have been ok when your food still had nutrition in it, and such is not the case for most of us, eating from the center aisles of the grocery store today. Lean times for those trapped in a system exacerbate this two ways, in reducing further the quality of food purchased while simultaneously adding stress.

If this in any way defines you, you might consider how effective your witness will be from a wheelchair. Colorado, the state I live in, your "healthiest" state, has a 50% obesity rate. I remember on another thread yesterday "and 1/4 will die, and 1/3 of the water will turn to wormwood..." well we're at about 400 million pop., and we have 100 million pre-diabetics.

So, for Christ's sake, consider how proper nutrition can do amazing things to your overall health, and therefore your mental health, which can only lead to more spiritual health and not less. A gram of Omega 3 and 3000iu of vitamin D would feel like a B12 OD to most anyone reading this, and it's just food.

Eating real food would allow the discussion about what witchcraft really is to progress, as you prolly can not see it right now; ah, unless you know poor nutrition's brother, "prescription drugs."

Re: Depressed?

I say this with authority since I have been shaped by depression also; but a lot of it was inflicted by poor diet combined with scripts, antibiotics, yikes. I would starve first now. If you are eating CAFO meat and not supplementing, you are just in denial.

This is all very interesting! And I believe you have hit the nail on the head as far as depression goes, and some major symptoms that are being dealt with on a regular basis in a physician's office. Thank you for sharing this information with us BB !!! Our food supply is mightily deficient from needed nutrients, and being aware of these things and making some lifestyle changes, could really turn around a pre-diabetic condition, and prevent it from becoming full blown!

That statement reminds me of a King of the Hill episode where Hank is getting a Colonoscopy and the doctor tells Bobby, his son, "Did you know that if you pull out the small intestines it will circle the Earth three times?".
LOL

Re: Depressed?

I am still invited to be depressed a couple times a month, I note it is usually in the early am, and believe first thing in the morning is prime-time for that, and to get your "day-face" on. Whereas before it was a hard choice not to make, every morning I was putting it down, it's down to a couple times a month, and we each, or at least I, have a little laugh, which is tough right then, as the moment is obv chosen carefully. If you can laugh when everyone else is crying...

Anyway, never been into the "probiotic" thing much, but have been whole-food for about five years, BIG juice, so was kind of surprised to get such a lift from this. I guess "Nutrition Reporter" has updated, this site will give the cuurent issue, which I just quoted from, and links to past issues on top, etc.

A depressed Christian is a defeated Christian, and you can refuse to be depressed for no reason. Depression over those things you are here to overcome is not overcoming. Being the lit area where those things never seem to penetrate is.
