What makes AFF different?
It has been several years since I participated in an online message board forum, but when I came across this one I felt compelled to join and participate.
I want to know what everyone else thinks makes this forum different from other "Apostolic" message board forums. I've participated in a few in the past, and one noticeable difference I see in this forum is the laid back atmosphere. For the most part, everyone seems to have a mutual understanding and some level of respect for each other. Whereas, before, I have come across forum participants who were adamant about their opinions and any disagreement with them resulted in retaliation with condemnation.

Re: What makes AFF different?
I never wanted to join any other Apostolic forum for the reasons you just mention until I came across this one.
While some of my posts are challenged, I am still allowed to have my opinion without condemnation. That tells me that there is a level of respect and maturity that the posters here have.

I am just fine here...I like places where other opinions are allowed...

I think that's one of the best trademarks about this forum.

I agree with your initial assessment.
There is indeed a mutual respect that is the very heart of this forum. That is not to say the boundaries have gone untested, nor that simply anything goes in the name of civility. But I greatly appreciate that the vast majority of posters are mature and respectful.
Thankful for all my AFF friends on Thanksgiving Day 2011!

Re: What makes AFF different?
AFF reminds me of the fishing story in Luke 5. Like the disciples, AFF doesn't seem to be fishing for any one particular type, size or color of fish. The disciples were just fishing for fish. Their job was to bring the fish in... the good and bad would be sorted later.... kinda like the wheat and tares... the sheep and goats. AFF's "open door" policy of allowing divergent views seems to be more Biblical than other forums where you must meet some doctrinal criteria to participate. Somehow, I'm reminded of the sign we see in amusement parks: "You must be THIS SIZE to ride".
I'm sure other forums serve some purpose or need...they just don't serve my purpose or need. I don't want to be someone's "yes man", but I like a forum where differing views can be discussed and expressed without fear of censure.

I can understand the want for some doctrinal common ground on other forums. The thing is most of us here are very independent thinkers and so we don't agree with every unquestionable doctrine that other forums would require us to believe. In fact, most of us couldn't even attempt to go to those others forums and just discuss the doctrines and ideas that were allowed for debate because we have such a different starting point that in order to get our point across we would be forced to bring up our disagreements with the unquestionable doctrines.

Re: What makes AFF different?
What I like about AFF is that I can get everything off my chest then later apologize then vent some more and apologize then share my thoughts again then apologize, then...well, you know! ;-)
I do love you all...well...most of you! LOL
