Is the economy improving?
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/...20069136.shtml
"About 6.2 million Americans, 45.1 percent of all unemployed workers in this country, have been jobless for more than six months - a higher percentage than during the Great Depression."

They're starting to fret, though. I mean, BO told a group of Chrysler workers that even a Jeep would have a tough time navigating over the bumps of his economy. [which was, you know, inherited from W] [TIC]

Apparently the joke didn't go over too well. I hope they're starting to fret and hope that translates into something postive for the American people.
What are the chances???

Found on the Internet:
"Economic plan: the beatings will continue until morale improves."

Re: Is the economy improving?
One of my sons works for Fidelity Investments. He has been with them for about 20 years and was (maybe still is a vice president). I don't even know what he does right now but he travels several days each week and it has something to do with selling retirement programs to companies. He is quite conservative politically but he says the economy is improving, but slowly.

My comment and reply:
I'm not sure what my son is using for the basis for his statement but since he is involved in finance and since much of Fidelity's business is with Mutual Funds, etc. and retirement plans for individuals and companies, I assume he knows what he is talking about when he says the economy is improving.
You couldn't prove it by me and our personal situation. I am on a pension that I receive from General Electric and my wife and I both receive Social Security. The Pension does not increase but is fixed. Social Security can have an annual increase based on the COLA (cost of living). According to the Government statistics there was no increase in the actual cost of living during 2009 and 2010 so there was no COLA increase given to Social Security recipients in 2010 and 2011. I don't know what the govt. uses to arrive at that conclusion. It's like the old adage, "Figures don't lie, but liars can figure."
Each month we see our purchasing power shrink as the prices for goods and services rise. We are part of the many elderly (my wife will be 70 next month and I am 73) trying to make do on fixed incomes. We do not qualify for housing subsidies because our house is paid off and we do not qualify for help with utilities or for food stamps because our income is too high. Yet, every month we see our expenses rising and our purchasing ability shrinking.
I may have to get a job as a Walmart Greeter. I'm too old and broken down to sell my body on the street.

Well they obviously dont use the same numbers when it comes time for them to vote themselves a COL increase.
