Pray for my nephew

I don't normally make a practice of going by my parents after work but I did today, I just had a gut feeling that I needed to go over there. It was a good thing I did, this is not the kind of news you want to get over the phone.

Apparently my nephew overdosed on some (unknown even to the doctors) drug, went psychotic, was subdued by the cops and taken to the hospital tied to a stretcher a couple of days ago. He's still in the hospital, still immobilized, and apparently out of it most of the time.

I can't even imagine what my sister is going through right now. She's requested prayer. Since my nephew is an adult, there's apparently some difficulty with doctors apparently less than willing to cut in his parents on what's going on.

Please pray that my nephew comes out of this OK and with no brain damage (apparently a huge worry right now) and for peace for my sister and brother-in-law. Thank you.

Re: Pray for my nephew

I got some more news last night.

My nephew is in ICU but he's improving physically and may be moved to a regular room soon. His leg restraints were removed yesterday but his hands and arms are still restrained.

The doctors believe he overdosed on PCP ("angel dust"). Apparently, PCP is so toxic that it can take weeks or months to come out from under the resulting psychosis. The doctor told my sister "three weeks" yesterday.

My sister is working with a social worker to get my nephew into a psychiatric facility as soon as his physical health will allow it.

As you can imagine, this is causing great upset within the extended family.

Re: Pray for my nephew

Thank you everyone for your prayers!

My nephew is doing much better. My dad talked to my sister yesterday evening and said the relief in her voice was obvious.

He is now out of ICU and in a ward where his physical needs as well as his addiction issues can be addressed. The doctors are not sure if there will be any lasting brain damage, but his progress has been excellent.
