Dust on the Bible

Anybody remember this oldie?

DUST ON THE BIBLE
Recorded by Kitty Wells
Words and music by Johnny and Walter Bailes

CHORUS
Dust on the Bible, dust on the holy word
The words of all the prophets and the sayings of our Lord ...
Of all the other books you'll find, there's none salvation holds
Get that dust off the Bible and re- deem your poor [ soul.

First Verse
I went into a home one day to see some friends of mine
Of all the books and magazines, not a Bible could I find ...
I asked them for the Bible; when they brought it, what a shame
For the dust was covered o'er it, not a finger-print was plain.

Verse 2
You can read your magazines, read of love and tragic things
And not one verse of scripture, not one verse do you know ...
When it is the very truth and its contents good for you
Dust on the Bible will doom your soul.

Verse 3
Oh, if you have a friend you'd like to help along life's way
Just tell him that the Good Book shows a mortal how to pray ...
The best advice to give him that will make his burden light
Is to dust off the family Bible, trade the wrong way for the right.

I was just wondering, which collects more dust in my life and our lives:
the Bible, the television (monitor), the computer.

Re: Dust on the Bible

I tend to have dust on my Bible because i seldom do study with it. When I am doing study I use online resources. When I read the Bible I use online resources.

I carry a Bible to the pulpit when I preach after having studied, built notes & printed them out on computers. I then open the Bible and read the text from my printed notes.

Having a printed copy is more out of habit or expectation than anything else.

I have dust on several Bibles because I have about 10-15, but only use a few.

Great old song, Sam! I still love to get my Bible out and read from it. It's actually opened in front of me at my computer. Love God's Word!

Yeah Sam... They sang it on XERF, Del Rio, Texas, with towers in Ciadad Acunna, Quoilia (Sp) Mexico. The announcer was Paul Kellinger, "your Good Neighbor along the way."

When I was a teenager in SE Wisconsin in the nineteen fifties I heard broadcasts from XERF and XEG and WSM. Actually, listening to some of those preachers: Jack Coe, A.A. Allen, and Glen Thompson helped me to see that God had more for me than what I was being taught in a cessationist church.

Yea! Great memories. I remember hearing a preacher on XERF announcing that if you would send him $10 he would send you an "autographed" picture of "The Lord Jesus Christ!"
