Taxing guns?

Has anyone heard of a bill that is being proposed to tax all registered fire arms?

My SIL in Al has said she heard this. Just looking for confirmation.

Re: Taxing guns?

Just found this:

Over the past six months or so, I’ve seen an occasional e-mail about SB 2099, a bill that would supposedly require gun owners to declare their firearms on tax forms. During the past few days, however, the volume of questions about the bill has increased. So, I thought I would write a bit about SB 2099 to try and set the record straight.

When I first received an e-mail about the SB 2099, I knew there was no bill by that number in the Senate. If you take a look at the Bills page on OpenCongress right now, and click the button for Senate bills, you’ll see that the most recent legislation introduced is S. 1648. So, naturally, I turned to Google. This article from Urban Legends was the first result:

Description: Email rumor
Circulating since: Sep. 2000
Status: Outdated / False
The good people at Urban Legends do an incredible job debunking the claims made by the e-mail that’s circulating around, and even go so far as linking to a statement released by the National Rifle Association earlier this year:

Like many rumors, there’s just a grain of truth to this one. Someone’s recycling an old alert, which wasn’t even very accurate when it was new.

There actually was a U.S. Senate bill with that number that would have taxed handguns—nine years ago. It was introduced by anti-gun Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), and it would have included handguns under the National Firearms Act’s tax and registration scheme. This has nothing to do with anyone’s Form 1040, of course.

that bill was very old and was burried quickly. it never saw the light of day and there is no bill today in congress like that.

The state of California has just inacted a very anti-gun bill (dont remember the details). But that is on a state level, not a national level.

On the national level, Obama needs the blue dogs so there wont be any Anti-Gun legislation until after Health care is distroyed and Cap and Tax energy is passed.

THEN will be the time to watch for Anti-Gun insanity.

at the rate we're going, it won't be long and they'll be taxing the air we breath.

Re: Taxing guns?

I heard the health bill has something about gun control in it. They get by putting it in the health bill because of "gun shots" are a health issue.

Don't know that for a fact. Heard it on I think the Sean Hannity program.

The bill for California was Assembly Bill 962 which goes into effect February 1, 2011. The new legislation stipulates how ammunition retailers are to store ammunition, information that must be obtained and kept on file from the purchaser, prohibits the sale of ammunition via the mail or internet unless it is being shipped to a retailer. Here is the link to a PDF on the gun bills that were signed and vetoed. There is a need for gun laws, however, some things are just going too far. I'm currently outside of CA and am a CA resident, but I scratch my head and wonder what happened to CA. They aren't socring well in my book. http://www.lcav.org/content/CA_Gun_Laws_2009.pdf
