Knock, Knock Census Bureau Calling.

Well today I had a little visit from your friendly neighborhood federal gestapo.

They stopped by verifying my address for the mailing of the long awaited 2010 census.

He never asked my name. He asked if he had the address right.

He said "Looks like you have some animals back there. You have some goats & some chickens?" To which I replied.. "That's what it looks like."

I wish I had been thinking better at the time I would have told him I didn't want any mention of animals noted.

When they finally pass the NAIS then you will have to obtain a Premise ID from the federal government if you own even one chicken. Even if it is a pet. This goes for all food animals.. milking included. If one dies you have to let them know within 24 hours. If you sell one you have to let them know... if you move one you have to let them know. If they come and audit your land and you have one goat that died and you didn't turn it in then you will face very large fines. This one stop by my house today has put me on the list for the houses they will immediately visit when the NAIS is finally forced through against the massive opposition to it. Of course the NAIS is touted as voluntary... but they always bring their draconian legislation in as voluntary and then make it mandatory.

And many like it.

Currently we are working together to push through legislation in Arkansas that will prevent any such legislation from becoming mandatory.

It can be implemented on a voluntary basis. But not mandatory.

It is called the Freedom To Farm Act.

Yeah, the Federal government is going nuts. You should have just told the Census taker that the "animals" were the only Democrats in your county. They'd be protected then.

You should have said "Nope, I got me some Unicorns and Cockatrices.

And a "nope, wrong address" would have been classic.

Or just tell them you are an illegal alien and don't have to register your animals

They can think all they want.

But they don't have the right to control what a person raises on their own property to feed their own family.

Period.

And... Conversely... I do have the right to control what I raise on my own property to feed my own family.

Re: Knock, Knock Census Bureau Calling.

Interesting......

One mile east of me there's a house with large lot and they have several horses that I'd pass daily on my drive to work. One half mile west as I drive to work now there is a house with a horse grazing in the front yard.
And I'm smack dab in the middle of the city...(my neighborhood circa 1962);--- (these were grandfathered in.)
But I still find it amusing to be passing a horse each morning.
