Do you BELIEVE in Christian education?

Do you believe in Christian (school) education?

How do you feel about Christian schools?

Would you send your kids to a Christian school?

What are the benefits? What are the drawbacks?

I like the idea of "Christian" education for my kids. Not sure what is better. Let them face the world at a young age and learn from their mistakes or go off to college where they are unsupervised for the first time in life and come face to face with the world.

Most "Christian" schools suffer from the same drawbacks that our UPC Bible Colleges suffer from - lack of accreditation.

Also, I have seen a rather narrow and sectarian approach to many subject areas. It's like the education is more agenda driven, perhaps in an attempt to "stem the liberal tide..." I'd prefer a more open approach in education than a conscious countering of whatever "the other guys" are doing.

I would not send my kids to a "Christian school" unless something particularly new and dramatic opened up around here. I have sternly warned them about my experiences with "Bible schools" and I believe they will take heed. I have one son in college now (really his senior year in HS, but he's taking all his classes at a nearby college campus).

The primary drawback as I see it, is an irrational refusal to accept the reality of the world in which we find ourselves.

"Just pretend" works for kids... it's a lot harder for a geologist or even an honest historian.

I prefer the public schools. Plenty of our OP kids that have been exclusivley in either setting and are serving the Lord today and plenty more that aren't.

Re: Do you BELIEVE in Christian education?

I believe in Christian education, but only when the quality of education being offered is not compromised. I don't think it's necessary to throw young children into public school to teach them "how to live in the real world". However, I do not think that all public schools are horrible and damaging either. Public schools vary greatly from one area to another. I am not pleased with the quality of or environment in the public schools in our area. We have chosen an accredited Christian private school for our children.

How will it cause a conflict? Most Christian parents send their kids to a Christian school not for doctrinal instruction but to separate them from ungodly influences, protect them from the often fights that occur and in some cases get a better education
