I have met and greeted KH at various functions during the years. Each of those has been very congenial and perceived him to be very down-to-earth. It has become evident to me that he is a great man of God ... through these interactions and the barrage of praise Dad had for him.
Everyone speaks of a man that loves the Kingdom of God and the lost ... and this too is very evident by the fruit of his labor.
Many who have had a close proximity to him have said he is a very regimented and disciplined man ... and I can discern he's a man with a intimate prayer life with his Savior.
Having heard him speak in a variety settings I found a man that may not be the best orator but spoke assertively, with anointing, and with reams of wisdom to share.
He is described by many as a loving and dedicated family man. And when hearing him speak one time in NYMD in a closed minister's session ... he chose to speak about FAMILY ... stating that it was a fundamental cornerstone in the success of a ministry. His candor about very humble beginnings brought admiration to this poster to know that through hard work and commitment one can become accomplished. An anecdote about he and his wife sifting through the family couch for loose change, early on, because things were tight ... remains vivid in my mind.
Hundreds and hundreds in the Stockton area have come to know the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through his ministry. He has mentored and developed many ministers. One of the largest church facilities in the state of CA is Christian Life Center. It is still a dynamic multi-cultural church that has planted many other works and has given probably millions to missions.
Without a doubt, it is these things that KH will be most remembered for ... as being his greatest impact ... the work he did for the Kingdom of God and his role as a loving father, husband, grandfather.
With this being said ...
He is also an influential leader in the movement many of us have links to.
When he succeeded NA Urshan as GS of the UPCI ... his ability to exert influence on a greater scale ... added a dimension to what we would call "legacy".
My question in this thread is what is his second greatest impact in regards to influencing the movement?
Was it bringing some fiscal responsibility to the org that some described had become swamped in largesse, bureaucracy and wasteful spending under NAU that some claim?
Will it be his role in the latest schisms and possible future ones?
Or is it something else?
I have some thoughts on the matter but I'd love to hear from some of you ...
PLEASE NO PERSONAL BASHING ... Let's try to keep this on the level of historical/political commentary.
I have not agreed with a lot of things he has done as GS, and we aren't exactly in the same ideological tribe in some areas, but I do agree that he is one of the more down to earth high office holders I have met.
Perhaps the most impressed I ever was with KH was several years ago at a GC when I had a lot on my mind and was spending a lot of time in the prayer tent...
KH was the only prominent pastor I ever happened to see in there praying with us commoners. He was a regular.
I can respect things like that.

That is everything to me. I've noticed through the years - the strongest churches are the ones with the pastor and his wife in the prayer room!
why wouldnt he? give him time. there will be a slam or to on Bishop Haney before its all said and done. (or was there? something about schisms....)
You have to have DanA in context. He walked away from the UPCI the turned around and started lobbing Molotov cocktails.
aahhh...the ad hominem attacks begin already.
Ferd, just because somebody leaves the UPC and openly states their negative impressions of it doesn't make them a bad person, nor does it make their observations invalid. The UPC was born out of schisms, has birthed many of it's own schisms, and will continue to do so. It is the natural implication of its doctrine and it's culture from the beginning. Don't throw bombs at people that point it out. That's unfair and lack objectivity on your part. As Keyshawn Johnson says, "C'mon man!".
That being said, I think KH's legacy will be the shism's and the splits and general uproar that has attended his tenure in St. Louis. Beyond that I'll keep my other thoughts on KH to myself as they almost got me banned in my first week on the forum.
