Palin on SNL: Highest Ratings in 14 Years!
Without a doubt, the star of this election season is Gov. Palin. The elitists from the Northeast, the West Coast, and Washington DC can't deal with the fact that she is generating more excitement in this campaign than the other three.
Instead of asking why she is getting more attention, they scoff at her and dismiss her, even the elitists in the GOP like David Brooks and Peggy Noonan. The reason why they attack her is b/c of what Thomas Sowell called "The Conceit of the Anointed". The are smartest ones, the most talented ones, the best and the brightest. They have anointed themselves as the spokespersons of what everyone thinks and believes. Only people like them deserve to rise to such thresholds of power.
So here comes this very organic, salt of the earth woman who doesn't read the NY Times (imagine that), didn't go to Harvard, doesn't lick the boots of the establishment, kills moose, went to community college, entered a beauty contest to win scolarship money and is getting more attention from mainstream America than all of them put together. And they hate her for it.
Imagine SNL gets its highest ratings in 14 years! Her debate with Biden topped all of the Obama/McCain debates. You dont think they tuned in to watch Biden do you? Her crowds are outnumbering any of the other three candidates. She is exciting the masses like none other.
No one seems to care why. They want to make fun of her, dig up petty issues about her, they want to belittle her and treat her as a lightweight. But the bitter reality for these elitists that don't seem to get it is this: mainstream America is excited about Palin b/c she represents one of the greatest qualities of America. Palin is a testimony to us all that you can be from small town America, live in relative obscurity, live like most of us trying to make a living, raise a family, and serve the community in some way and have unlimited opportunities, even maybe become president. What's so refreshing about her is that unlike the other three there is no indication that Gov. Palin has spent any measurable time aspiring to be president someday.
The anointed intelligensia of media, academia and government as well as the gods and goddesses of the entertainment world will never understand the Palin phenomena because they have been so privileged throughout their lives they don't have a clue what real America is like. And for those who, like Palin, have emerged from obscurity to join the ranks of the rich and famous they have simply lived in their bubble for so long they have forgotten from whence they came.

deacon blues- I don't know who you are, BUT you need to send posts like this to national and large metropolitan newspapers and media outlets promptly or at the very least start a blog.
Your writing style is as good or better than the professional editorials and commentaries I have been reading. It captures what many would agree to be the heart of America.
Bravo! :

Thanks Newman! I have great respect for you and have enjoyed your postings over the years. I used to really love watching you lock horns with Mr. Without Wrath or Doubting on faithchild and new faithchild. I appreciate your encouraging words.

RE SNL....I confess I did watch the opening just to see Palin. Otherwise it is a show I NEVER watch .

Awesome blog. Someday, you should consider bundling the articles into a book.
