Proms and Pentecostals

So if your children are in public school, will they/did they go to the prom?

What are your feelings on this? I know some have gone and not participated in the dancing - seeing it has often become a lude event.

Where will you draw the line?

My oldest child was in the entertainment business and home schooled then got her GED so missed her HS graduation.

The two younger sons did attend their proms. The youngest son's girlfriend was the Prom Queen and while he was not Prom King his consolsation is he was voted most handsome guy in the Sr. class. LOL!!!

His prom was cool because us parents got to come for the first 15 minutes or so and see the ballroom and all of our kids all dressed up nice, etc. Then they kicked us out and the kids had fun.

Instead of a limo my son had me rent him a Lincoln Navigator to drvie to the prom. I could not believe he didn't want the Jaguar we could have rented!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

But CC1 you really did not address my questions...

Are you saying it's all no big deal? I have never been so perhaps the stories are overblown, I dunno...

Re: Proms and Pentecostals

My son was home schooled through the 11the grade and went to public school for his senior year. We graduated second in his class and was senior class vice president. He did not go to the prom. We teach against that here.

Re: Proms and Pentecostals

My Jr Prom was nice. I had my friend use his Dodge Shadow to drive my date & I. he dressed up like a chauffeur and his car was really clean. Even had good music on for us!

My date & I slowed danced, but that's it. Neither one of us Christian teens had the rhythm to do any of the other stuff!

My Sr Prom I skipped because it was on the same night of a regional church function for our organization.

When the Lord blesses me with children, I'll let them decide as to whether they should go to their Prom.

Ecclesiastes 3:4 says that there is a time to dance

Re: Proms and Pentecostals

When I was a new Christian I joined the local Baptist Church.

We did not believe in dancing so we had a banquet at our church on Prom night. It was a small town so there was only one high school. The church basement was decorated with a theme. The only time I went the theme was "safely anchored". A light house made from snow fencing and then covered with paper with a revolving light at the top was part of the decorations. Some of the ladies from the church fixed the meal. We dressed up. We had a group from Youth For Christ come visit us and they did some special music, testimonies, and a talk. We passed out fliers at the high school inviting anyone who might not be going to the prom.

Like I said, it was a small town. Television was almost a novelty. There was no theater in town. Once a week a man came in and showed a movie at the local park. There was no admission charged. Since Baptists didn't believe in going to movies, we had an alternate event each week. We went swimming at a nearby lake. Also, every so often we and a church in a nearby town rented a roller skating rink and had a night of fun and fellowship there.

Re: Proms and Pentecostals

I went and danced and had a great time. Oh, and the District Superintendent's son was there also. I don't know if he danced or not. I didn't pay attention.

Here we have a banquet and then they have the dancing. So I'll probably let my sons go to the banquet.
