Exclamation Homeschooling: Prayer Needed

Just wanted to mention to all who find this issue of concern that the California Court of Appeals rehearing of In re Rachel L. is scheduled for June 23, 2008, this Monday.

They originally ruled that homeschooling was illegal in CA. Let's pray they get it right this time...especially since it affects so many God-fearing people who are striving to give their children a better education, free from all that liberal insanity that the public schools have begun teaching in that state.

I had no idea that this happened, although in CA, it doesn't surprise me. Thanks

This is what will be happening tomorrow.

Quote:
Court of Appeal Grants Petition for Re-hearing

On March 25, the California Court of Appeal granted a motion for rehearing in the In re Rachel L. case—the controversial decision which purported to ban all homeschooling in that state unless the parents held a teaching license qualifying them to teach in public schools.

The automatic effect of granting this motion is that the prior opinion is vacated and is no longer binding on any one, including the parties in the case.

The Court of Appeal has solicited a number of public school establishment organizations to submit amicus briefs including the California Superintendent of Public Instruction, California Department of Education, the Los Angeles Unified School District, and three California teacher unions. The court also granted permission to Sunland Christian School to file an amicus brief. The order also indicates that it will consider amicus applications from other groups.

Home School Legal Defense Association will seek permission to file such an amicus brief and will coordinate efforts with a number of organizations interesting in filing briefs to support the right of parents to homeschool their children in California.

“This is a great first step,” said Michael Farris, chairman of HSLDA.
“We are very glad that this case will be reheard and that this opinion has been vacated, but there is no guarantee as to what the ultimate outcome will be. This case remains our top priority,” he added.

cneasttx,
Texas has already been through the court issue on trying to certify homeschool teachers in EVERY subject. lol They lost in court and I believe that will also happen in California.

BTW, before and during our court time the Whitehouse switchboards were so inundated with calls they couldn't hardly handle it. Loved that!

Well I like the fact that there is a big support group in our little town and surrounding towns. Texas needs more homeschooling if you ask me. Our public education system is morally bankrupt.

I agree. I also believe that not every family is capable of homeschooling and some are not interested.

I advocate each family having a legal choice as to what works best for their family.

Even if a family tries to homeschool and it doesn't seem to work for them, it doesn't take a child very long to caught up in the public school system.
