Promises Of God

I'm standing on God's promises... those in His written Word and those he has given me personally.

How about you?

Re: Promises Of God

Every promise in the Bible is mine because of Christ!

Yes, I am standing and living in His promises!

Re: Promises Of God

Well, just one serious reply and one wise-guy, so far.

Fiyah, I was kinda thinking this thread was going to start off with a reply to my post on that other thread!

Anyway, would you like to share an example of a promise God gave you personally?

Well, I assume you iz the wize one??? LOL.

Sorry, I started this thread and then had to run out. I'm back home now, but I'm cooking and glancing at the forum (In between burning the pork chops.)

I was kinda hoping you'd cut and paste your stuff from the other thread... so I could attack it! HAHA. (Not really.)

Not looking for an argument. I do believe in God's promises from the bible -- all of them! I do believe in, have seen first-hand, and have experienced healing miracles.

Does this give you your springboard?

Re: Promises Of God

Exceeding precious promises. As I thought about this thread, I though of Deut 28. What powerful promises God extends to His people. If. We think of God's love as unconditional. And, it is. His grace is unmerited. If.

Deu 28:2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

But I don't think its about God witholding a blessing or promises from us, IF we fail to obey Him. But its about living in the place of faith where we can be in a position to recieve what God has already given us. Living by faith is what the Bible calls it. Its not "toe the line", do everything right and proper, but its about positioning ourselves in Christ to where we can recieve His blessings. Its true enough that we can't recieve from God due to our lack of faith. But by excercising faith, by living our lives pleasing unto God, we can reap the benefits of His blessings. If.

The door bell rings. Ed McMahan is standing there with the $1,000,000 Publishers Clearing House prize. But I'm not at home to recieve it. I must live my life in the position to recieve God's blessings. To claim Gods promises... we can't ignore that little word "IF".

Sure! Here ya go:

Lots of blatant fakes and unverifiable ones ("my back pain is gone!"), but no, not an undeniably supernatural miracle, that I know of. If I had, it wouldn't prove the Bible is infallible and inspired. It might prove that God sometimes intervenes, but even that would be iffy. Was it God, or was it some other supernatural phenomenon, or even a "natural" thing, as yet unexplained? Plenty of unexplained things still happen in the world.

For a promise to be considered broken, it only has to be broken once, by the way. Sure, I understand, nobody here will consider a failed healing to be a broken promise (and find something/someone else to blame), but as I see it, that's because they cling to their beliefs no matter what. Because they are told to believe, no matter what. That it is required of them! "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen"! "Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." See the problem? The very same commands could be attached to any religion or cult, and the followers would have no choice but to obey.

If the Bible says if you do X God will do Y, then if you do X and Y doesn't happen, what would that be called, if not a broken promise? And the cliche that God always answers prayer and it's sometimes "no" doesn't change that. In fact, it's equivalent to admitting that God does, in fact, break promises.

Re: Promises Of God

Timothy,

Do you believe in God?

If you do, what kind of God do you believe in? Are you a deist?

Re: Promises Of God

I'm an oddball. I think of myself as a Christian agnostic. Christian, in the sense that I follow Christ's teachings (most of them as recorded, anyway), though not entirely sure about His deity, the atonement (or the need for it), etc. That's part of the agnostic label I wear. The other part is the typical agnostic idea: I don't think it's possible to prove or disprove God's existence. I lean heavily toward the believing side (and "deist" is a pretty close fit, there), but I also believe that God's true nature is most likely very different from what most people think, or even how He is described in some parts of the Bible.

Re: Promises Of God

If we who are in Christ, are considered as being Abraham's seed in a spiritual sense, then wouldn't the promises of Abraham belong to the church ?
