What Brings The Anointing?

What brings the anointing?

Does it automatically come with the calling?

Is it cultivated through prayer and fasting?

Can you lose it because of behavior?

just thought it would make for a good discussion and am interested in everyone's insight.

What brings the anointing, and can you deepen your own anointing? If so, how?

Prayer and fasting - yes, mostly

Can you loose it - if you don't use it, you loose it

Does it come with the calling - partly

I'm of a unique group I think. I do not think that the 'anointing' is a 'gift' that God gives you. I think the anointing is an endowment that God bestows upon you according to the life you live.

When you cease living that kind of life you forfeit true anointing.

You and I are of that same unique group, then.

Psa 45:1 <To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of loves.> My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
Psa 45:2 Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
Psa 45:3 Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.
Psa 45:4 And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.
Psa 45:5 Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.
Psa 45:6 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.
Psa 45:7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Anointing in some measure comes proprtional to our love for righteousness, and our hatred for wickedness.

God showed me this years ago, and I have prayed through the first verses of this Psalm before I preach for years and years.

I was amazed to hear from James Willoughby on the other forum that his pastor, Huss Shearer, taught his young preachers the exact same principle.

I have often prayed for my tongue to be as the pen of a ready writer, and for grace to be poured into my lips.

This is a passage I usually quote in prayer before preaching.

The Bible says Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost (which is a gift)... but I know most of us think of the anointing as more or a greater measure of God's power in our lives. And I agree that the more we draw nigh to God and do those things that please Him, like Jesus did, the more "full of the Holy Ghost" we are.

Is there any limit to the anointing we can have of God. Does it increase and decrease with how consecrated we are or how closely we walk with God?

Anointing means to be over powered.Everyone is anointed in their gift if it's the true gift of God.There are many false anointed ones. The Holy Ghost don't anoint a person to preach lies or give false prophecy or false word of knowledge or so on.A true preacher will be anointed of the Holy Ghost.

We often look at anointing as coming from an outside source, but although that is true in some aspects, I personally believe that the anointing is cultivated in our lives by things God brings to bear upon us by trial, pressure and circumstances...pressure and heat...on things already resident in our lives.

The holy anointing oil was produced by common elements that were crushed, beaten, pulverized and bruised (wounding), then mixed together to produce a sweet-smelling savour.

The oil that flows from our bruising can heal the wounds of others if we will let God use us in that manner.

The anointing is the Spirit of Truth validating the Word of Truth. The anointing is not to testify of any man, is not given of God to authorize or validate a man, but for the purpose of bearing witness of the truth.

Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 14:17 (KJV)

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
John 15:26 (KJV)

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
John 16:13-15 (KJV)

We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
1 John 4:6 (KJV)

But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
1 John 2:27 (KJV)

Amen and the reason alot of preachers don't have God working with them confirming what they preach is because they don't preach full truth.

Mark.16
[20] And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Re: What Brings The Anointing?

In the OT, the anointing waned, it came and went, because the Spirit was not in them, it was upon them.

Jesus was the first one that the Holy Ghost came on and stayed. This was John's personal sign to indicate whom he was to point out as the Son of God.(Jn 1:33)

God gave the Spirit to Jesus, without measure. He got the full dose of the Ghost. (Jn 3:34; Acts 10:38; Isa 61:1)

The anointing that we have today, came with the Holy Ghost, and abides in us. (I Jn 2:27) It does not wane. It is not always in manifestation, but it is always in us. We should not pray for the anointing, but pray for the manifestation of the anointing.

The amounts of the Holy Ghost, the gifts of the Spirit, the callings of God, and all the other ministries, that we, as men receive, are limited by the measure of grace and faith that we have. These are all distributed unto every man, by the Spirit, according to the proportion of faith, as the Spirit wills. (Rom 12:3-6; I Cor 12:11)

Since the gifts and callings of God are without repentance, He will never take them away from us. (Rom 11:29)
