Christmas Traditions

We have several Christmas related threads, so I thought I would start one more--- Is there something you do with your family at Christmas that makes it special. We have several, but one I want to share. Seven years ago, my sister in law passed away unexpectedly in November, I do not have children, but am very close to my niece and nephew. I decided to start a Christmas tradition with them that year -I give them an ornament that I sign and date. I have expanded the tradition to include my great nephew, my niece's husband, and this year I will include my stepson and daughter in law. Share your
Christmas traditions with us!

Traditions are very important and sad when they are interrupted.

Our Christmas traditions include:

*Decorating the tree and having Chicken Paprikas on Christmas China.
*I usually wake up first and wake veryone else up on Christmas morning, but first I take a picture of everyone sleeping in their beds.
*Christmas stockings are as important as the presents themselves...we love stuffing the stockings full of trinkets and candy.

*************

Growing up...back in the day...we did nto have Christmas trees but we got a new outfit/dress to wear to the Church play. The church gave away a large candy cane and a navel orange.

There were so many of us that we got one big gift and then a couple small ones. We ate dinner together as a family and had grandma over and she talked about all the dead people

Christmas Banquets were a big deal...you got to go when you were 12 and we had dates...in groups until we were 16 years old. I always wore velvet...red velvet, blue velvet, green velvet.

I liked New Years eve service more...footwashing and communion was so special...

Stockings full of little gifts for my kids who are now 19 and 25!!! They usually open these a day or two before Chrsitmas.

My daughter and I always watch the same Christmas movies every year. They are "All I Want for Christmas" and "Serendipity" and sometimes "While You Were Sleeping". We can practically quote them all.

I love a Cookie Swap.I wish I were there.I am getting together tommorrow to help get treat bags ready for jail ministry. Each year I make pecan pralines for our friends and put them in clear jars.I like to drop them off on Christmas Eve so they can be eaten and apprieciated.I get alot of thank you's.We usually go to St.Anns each year and ride the train and drink hot chocolate. In Louisiana we used to go to some of the area light trails. In Pensacola there are alot of things going on.Christmas in old Seville is one of them. They have carols in the square and everyone brings their lawn chairs and buys hot chocolate or roasted peanuts etc.I am going this year.I also love the Christmas parade.
