Puking at the altar. Where did this come from?

I have always wondered WHERE in the world folks got the idea that if someone got "delivered" from the devil that he/she had to puke. I remember being at a church and when a person in the altar would really start praying, someone would rush out to get some tissue and a waste can.
What's up with that?

In 40 years of oneness pentecostalism, I don't think I ever saw anyone puke at the altar. In my early years I did see the casting out of demons, but in the few years before I left the movement that was a rarity.

Re: Puking at the altar. Where did this come from?

I've seen plenty of people throw up during church services, but they were all kids who's parents brought them to church despite them being sick ("what BETTER place to be when sick than in church?" was the typical line given).

Never anyone as a result of having a demon cast out.

  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.

Re: Puking at the altar. Where did this come from?

Several times I have seen a person throw up as a result of demon possession. Not at Church but in the home and on the street.

Re: Puking at the altar. Where did this come from?

I witnessed someone frothing at the mouth and puking at an all night prayer meeting many years ago. The preacher leading the prayer meeting had called for those to come to the front who were dealing with specific issues, one of which included homosexuality. One young man came forward, and although everyone was supposed to have their heads bowed and eyes closed, everyone's eyes popped open when the young man began puking and frothing at the mouth. A call was made for all children to leave the building and anyone who didn't want to be around when the demon was being cast out. This young man had apparently struggled with the "gay" spirit a long time and wanted deliverance, and did receive some deliverance that night, although we did hear later that he was still struggling with it.

It was a service I'll not ever forget, let me tell you that! That has been my only experience with "puking" at the altar... but I would think that mostly it does have to do with demonic spirits when and if the "puking" takes place.

Re: Puking at the altar. Where did this come from?

I have heard of this happening in Trinitarian Pentecostal circles, and seen it once here in Orlando last year at my A/G church on a Friday night at a prayer and deliverance meeting.

Personally, I have never seen or heard of this in Apostolic circles.

I saw someone puke in church once. But I didn't think the sermon was that bad.
