Well, Well, Well... This is quite the interesting topics we have going here! I saw that a lot of stuff was taken out of context here, therefore I figured I would come on to clear some things up! =D with a smile!!! So anywayz... My dad (JK) preached a message at our camp which seems to be the center of attention right now. It seems to have caused somewhat of a debate. There are a couple of things I wanted to clear up. One is the fact of acoustic guitars... MY DAD LOOOOOVVVEEEESSSS TO PLAY THE GUITAR AND THE DRUMS!!! AND HAS PLAYED IT IN CHURCH!!!! He was preaching against the SPIRIT behind it. There seems to be a casual attitude behind the acoustic guitar. He said he was ABOUT to preach against them... NOT AGAINST them! Then there is the issue about the drums... he was only using that as an example. He was saying that as musicians, we have enough issues already that we don't need to be placed above everything else. But beside the fact, and this is in response to a post, this isn't what my father was preaching, but the drums do NOT need to be placed on a platform above everything else. Thats wrong!!! I play music, and the drums are normally behind the piano or somewhere in the vicinity so they can play together. Anyways... But in response to another post, we do have a platform and ur right, physically everything is elevated, but not just one thing. And he meant the spirit behind that.
Then there is the issue of ME.. ahem.. thats who was reffering to... wearing cowboy boots when I play the piano. He doesn't mean that literally. He was just saying that i was going to be a man and play at the same time because nowadays you see guys playing the piano, not all, but a lot, that are very efeminite. Not gay, but efiminite. There is a difference, but then again both are going to Hell. Anyways... he was using cowboys in reference to being a man, yet Brokeback Mountain kinda killed that for us...
So anyways... thats about I have... for now. I 'm sure I'll be back on here soon! Late!

When you start seeing "spirits" behind every cotton pickin thing like where drums are placed, etc, I think that is a problem within itself.
Some people see bogeymen everywhere. Good grief!
I am sure you and your dad are both nice guys but this kind of thinking just astounds me.

So are you saying that it's ok to have a casual attitude in/towards chuch? The piano can be considered a "gentle" instrument also. It depends on the way it is portrayed and played. yeah, we have sat around at my house just listening to him play, yet why would you bring that into the church? just a casual, kick off your shoes mentality?

Is he talking about evil spirits or attitudes like pride?
