With the notable and exemplary exceptions that have already been note: most of the "conservatives" here play the hit and run game. They post something derisive about the UPC and its "compromise" or they do a little dance about "all those preachers turning in their credentials" and then they run off.
That kind of behavior is NOT very friendly at all. It also provokes a bunch of posts going after "the guys who do the little dance." Then these same guys come back and complain about how they were mistreated.
Passive aggressive. It's the way they treat everybody.
And again, there are several fine examples like C.S. and S.E. and others who will actually engage you. But most of the "conservative" stuff is hit and run. It's like they're fighting a guerilla campaign against their own erstwhile brothers.
The terms are so relative... I'm all confused.
To me, the UC is the person who is dead set against even advertising on the "hellivision".. So are Con's and Ultra Con's considered the same thing on here? Because I would call myself conservative... but I'm not damning anyone for having or advertising on a tv...
So am I a moderate? WHO AM I???!!!!

the cons and ultra cons are both againt TV
BUT! most of the cons are okay with webcast , internet, things of that nature.
many UCs are against even things like power point, screens with words, etc
Ah yes. And thankfully there are no liberals calling others names, inpugning the character of good men or making 'drive by' postings of an obnoxious nature!
Can you imagine how this place would look if liberals weren't so far above accusation?
Let's face it; there is silliness on both sides. They key difference, as it appears to me, is that conservatives feel they are being attacked for still believing what they always believed and liberals feel they are being attacked when someone refuses to agree with the direction they are taking.
No, you can be assured it happens on both sides.
How old are you Deano? I'm just asking because I'm mid 40's and I've seen the "conservatives" change quite a bit over the last 30 years. And again, it's just from my experience - but I've seen "cons" throw standards out the window whenever it suited them as readily as "libs."
I don't see the "cons" sticking to a stand that they've always held. They are as malleable as anyone else- and I mean that in a good way.
The problem with "cons" is when you mess up their echo chamber. They want to hear the same noises from others in their clique that they make. When someone else comes along and says, "The TV advertising ban is only 30 years old..." many will freak. They want to hear that Paul preached against TV advertising. Sorry, it just ain't so.
Also, the Apostolic pioneers didn't hold to most of the standards that the "conservative" element of Apostolics preach today. Can you imagine G.T Haywood and Frank Bartleman sitting though some of the sermons we hear today?

you're going to get yourself into a sticky mess over post like this !
silence denotes fear. when the Cons stay away, they are afraid to tackle the libs on certain issues. Coon you should never get weary of defending your convictions.
about the other, i know good and well a certain member whose first name starts with a "D" is the reason some cons wont stay around. i'll say no more but it's true
Do you mean "Deve Epley?" That guy really gets on my nerves too.

To me, you sound like a very nice person.
And you're correct. The terms are misleading. I find that the "conservative" group, as epitomized by the "Tulsa meeting" have actually been formenting a great deal of change in the OP movement ever since the merger of 1945. They have been at the forefront of introducing resolutions at GC and changing the ministerial requirements.
Real conservatives don't try to change so many things just to suit themselves. They tend to not be as outspoken as their liberal brethren. But who's been making the most noise and pushing for change for the last 60 years? Just read the meeting minutes and look at the resolutions and other changes.

Will you still think I'm a nice person if I start to speak of baptism being necessary and outward holiness mattering to God...
Cause I am a conservative by many measures.
