Comical! Especially if the saints have internet to potentially view everything worldly under the sun and not be able to view a district meeting.
I understand the mentality that goes along with it however.

Brother Dan,

You should not be surprised by this. It is no new revelation. I said the same thing last year during this discussion. For me, television is THE line that I simply will not cross.

I will not criticize those who choose to stay. I will not become a UPC-basher. I will just quietly allow my license to lapse, become an independent, and keep preaching what I have always preached.

I hope those who stay in will offer me the same courtesy, by the way. I hope they won't scream, "See? He didn't get his way, so he's taking his toys and going home." I've heard that until I'm about to ... well, never mind.

I'm trying to keep a sweet spirit.

Thank you, my friend, for the kind words. I strive to be "a man of principle." I can't say I always succeed, but it is certainly my goal.

Here's what I think! (Don't anyone take this personal!)

At the GC business meeting, they should have everyone that will leave if the vote doesn't go their way to stand up.

All of those ministers that are standing should then be dismissed, and then the vote taken by those who have a true passion for the organization.

Why should those with one foot out of the door be able to determine the direction of organization?

I have a lot of respect for your candor and approach to this situation. However, if you do leave, the minute you opine differently than those in the org ... YOU WILL BE LABELED AS A BASHER. That's how categorize to marginalize works.

This is not a true litmus test for passion ... perhaps for loyalty ... but not passion.

Why should someone have to stay w/ a fellowship they no longer agree with?

I added this to my original post:

Why should those with one foot out of the door be able to determine the direction of organization?

You are making a very broad assumption -- that those who will leave if TV advertising is allowed have "one foot out of the door." There are MANY men who honestly don't WANT to leave, but have a drawn over with regards to the television issue.

I have been a licensed member of the United Pentecostal Church International since the early 1980's. I received the Holy Ghost and was baptized in a United Pentecostal Church. I preached my first revival in a UPC (I was 16 years old). The UPCI has been very good to me. I have not been "longing for the day" I could walk away. However, I have tolerated a number of things within this organization that I have not been pleased with. Granting permission to use television in any manner will, for me, be "the straw that broke the camel's back." That does NOT, however, mean I have "one foot out the door."

Perhaps a better way to accomplish your goal would be to ask everyone who will leave REGARDLESS of the passing of the resolution to stand, and then dismissing THEM. To do it the way YOU have suggested is more like, "if you won't blindly follow us WHERE EVER we go, then we don't want you." I don't believe you REALLY want the UPC -- or ANY organization, for that matter -- to reach THAT kind of mindset. Do you?

Good answer!

I can agree with the highlighted above! I have a feeling that there are those that are planning on leaving regardless, but want to vote as a parting shot, per se!
