Can rules happen to be in accordance with the Spirit of the principle? Sure, but once a rule is placed into a delivery system that teaches obey them that are your rulers, the spirit of the hear is no longer involved with the PRINCIPLE, but instead has moved to strictly being in operation with the RULE issuer.
Which is why the condition of the heart need to be addressed in our preaching rather than the measure of a rule. To have a tv or not to have a tv is not the issue, for instance. The issue is the heart of man that decides to sit and watch it. The heart of the man will be tried, tested and proven in his viewing choices. Yet, an untried, untested and unproven heart is not an overcoming one at all, being merely held and protected by outward restraints in its infant state, never allowed to be fully developed.

Amen, Brother Strange. We cannot draw on "fear" to get people into relationship with Jesus Christ.

It may work for a few hours, but not for the long haul.

Amen, PO.

How many have we witnessed that left the altar of repentace with a rule book, only to never to be heard from again.

The rule book is out the window, the soul is lost to eternity, having never had the issues of the heart fortified with the Word of God that gives strength and courage to overcome the world, the flesh annd the devil

Amen, sis.

It is all bound up in the understanding, "What is a relationship?"

...and possibility the recitation of an old favorite cliche'...
...'love, love, love, that's the Charismatics; all spirit no truth...

and yet everything I read above is about:
-pointing to Jesus
-not reprocessing the light that shines in an individual's heart
-each child of God experiencing truth for themselves
-every person walking in their own relationship with the one who loved them first

The lack of administering/establishing rules is not the lack of truth.

We are sharing and exhorting our testimony involving the principles of the Word that have borne witness in our spirit of the Spirit. Every individual will consider whether they will seek or reject this invitation to walk with him.

Good post and I agree 100%.
However I also understand that the concept of grace and the concept of what your saying in the above is very hard for many to understand. There is COMFORT in having a black&white rule like the bolded part. Someone says "do this", and you "do that" and you feel that much more saved. It is also much much easier! The greatest commandment after loving God is to love your neighbor. This is NOT an easy thing to do, especially when you have a neighbor or brother who is not EASY to love. Much more simpler to rejoice because you followed your pastors direction and got rid of the old tube. Give you something to "amen!!" at during service, especially when he talks about the other heathen who have yet to do it. And in doing THAT your directly going against commandment #2,
