Re: Do you choose what you believe in?

Wow, what a great topic! I've toyed with starting one like it for a while. Even so, not much to add at this point. I'll watch and maybe jump in, later. (Haven't even had time to read it all, just yet.)

I think I've been around here too long. I'm beginning to become skeptical in thinking maybe this was started by someone like you under a different user name!

LOL! What if it was me? Does that mean it wasn't sincere?

Yes, if it is you Timmy, that would mean you were being insincere.

Ah, because he said things contradicting things I've said, I see. Anyway, it's not me. Carry on. Like I said, I'll probably catch up with the thread and maybe add some thoughts, eventually.

Luxury to make the same mistake others have made and have tried to warn against?

Unfortunately that seems to be the way the majority of folks learn including a couple of my children. We try to show them the easier way, the road that leads to less heartache and pain, yet they think they know more than those who have more experience and have gone on before them only for them to make the same mistakes and suffer similar pain.

The other option is to pretend he believes....what you would call "choosing" to believe. He asked a Christian forum for some advice. Maybe that means he cares.

Yes. And I'm willing to support him while he works out where he's going to be. There's no judgment. Take my experiences and learn from the, or have your own experiences, the end result is the same. I don't think anyone should be walking through something as unsettling as this without support.

Of course, I'd much rather everyone hear what I say and use my experiences. I know the path I've walked. But I'm realistic enough to know not everyone is going to do that. I don't take anyone else's experiences and use them as my own, for instance. I have to go learn it all the hard way.

Are you sure that I said pretending to believe is the same as choosing to believe?

I know I choose to believe and have to fight against thoughts of unbelief frequently. And to do that I remember all the things and all the times God has manifested Himself to me. It's like the OT saints who set up altars of remembrance when God blessed them in some way. I don't call that pretending to belief.

For some reason I get the impression that you seem to think I am against Questioner in some way, but I'm not. I hate to see him/her make a huge error that has eternal consequences. Some don't recover their faith when they (unaware) start to entertain spirits that lead off the paths of the truth of God into darkness. Because I was there before, I would hate for him/her to go there. Since he/she did come onto a forum to ask advice, my advice is to learn from the mistakes of others and avoid suffering the same results which they did.

Unfortunately, you can't pretend to be a believer. You can't let doubt and unbelief gain a stronghold in you heart. The bottomline is the devil is lying to him/her and he/she has bought into the lie. If he/she really wants to know the truth, all they have to do is ask Jesus. And there are many, many very good Christian apologists who can elaborate on the reasonableness and logicalness of the Christian worldview. He only has to click on some of the links I provided or buy the book I recommended.

I just can't promote a "Journey" into darkness to find light.

But, how did you learn?

My guess is that you had folks who tried to spare you, but you made your own mistakes. Hence, you now try to teach your children.

But, one can't get frustrated when those younger than them have to learn the same way they did. The cycle will continue.
