I remember our old telephone that had a cord that stretched almost the length of the house, so you could drag it around as you worked.
And ironing day. All the clothes that needed ironed were piled into a basket, and had to be starched/ironed, and hung up.

funny, i've made a study of the correlation between iron sales and the state of a civilization; which correlate amazingly. Peak iron sales = peak civilization.
