Some believe this is because it is hard to leave truth, however since it is true of other groups that differ from the UPC doctrinally, that is not necessarily accurate. Folks need time to sort things out thru prayer and study, a type of deprogramming or detoxing.
If you are in a church where you just abide by what the leadership says without personal understanding, you are not in relationship with Jesus, you are just religious.
You can certainly serve God in the UPC, but there is a tendency to follow the crowd rather than to 'know Jesus personally'. Does your church encourage you to "personally" know Jesus, not just to know about Him, but to "know" Him in personal fellowship?JMHOs

again, this isnt the situation Ms is talking about....
I agree with everything you've said here....people have to work out their own relationship...no pastor can do that for them..no organization can do that for them.
It's about a personal relationship with Jesus.......if you dont have one or know why you do what you do - then you will have problems.

Now that kind of thinking and suggestion is fine and dandy for mature christians that set their focal view vertically and fix their eyes on Christ and not horizontally on man....
...but that does diddly for newborn babes in the LORD who need to be caressed, wooed and nurtured. You cannot fit these things all in a box...more wisdom is necessary to know how to respond...you can respond one way with a mature believer if they are your only audience in any given moment but must respond differently and be mindful when newborn babes are in the midst. Wisdom, for sure, is the key ingredient in matters like these....

Pray and ask the Lord what to do, then stop, look and listen for the answer. It may not be the answer you would like, but He will answer. Then make sure you do exactly what He directs, even if it is to go to another church, or find a home church, or start a home church. Just leave the place where you don't fit and move according to the Lord's direction, forget what others think, as long as you are following Him. Just like there are terrible schools there are terrible church groups, so find God's path for your family. You will have to get over all the fear that the past holds, if you can't do this then you don't have Jesus you have religion.

I have no problem with anyone on this Forum, I don’t even know who Nathan_Slatter is. I have never seen not one of his posts. I am not venting Folks. I have just seen so many posts about some saying they are un-church, and don’t trust Pastors or very rarely attend church services and such. It’s time to get real and get in a church, get a pastor, and get ready to meet Jesus. I knew I probably would offend some, but it’s not my intention to do this, but it’s to late in the day not to be doing all we can for the Lord. That’s the only reason I started this thread, kind of like a wake up call I guess. Sorry you have been hurt.

Even newborn believers can hear and follow God, if they will simply seek His direction. Better to start out right than to become dependent on those that have the own agenda, rather than the Lord's. But of course in proper context I certainly agree with what you have said.

That is what love and forgiveness is all about. We are commanded both and I believe God gives us grace to do both. Jesus commands us to love one another and even to love our enemies. If we can't love our brother who we can see, how can we love God who we can't see?
Pr 10:12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
Pr 17:9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends
Mt 18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
Mr 11:25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
