I don't know who says its an epidemic but the definition of an epidemic has little to do with what percentage of a population gets a virus and more to do with large numbers in a short period of time...compared to the norm

Did you ever see this video at a Ted Talk with Bill Gates? He talks about the population growing world wide. "The world today has 6.8 billion people. That's headed up to about 9 billion. Now, if we do a really great job with new vaccines, healthcare, reproductive health services, we can lower that by, perhaps, 10 or 15%."

I saw that video a while back! Had to watch it a few times to make sure I heard what I thought I heard. And the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is a huge supporter of vaccines, especially overseas. IIRC, they're being sued in India over many deaths associated with some vaccine they were pushing.
