Re: Should Felons Be Allowed To Vote ?

I have been voting since I was 18. This is the first year I may not vote.

Re: Should Felons Be Allowed To Vote ?

What is the basis of denying a convicted felon their Constitutional right to vote???

What about those who were convicted with a lesser felony charge as part of a plea bargain because they couldn't escape being implicated in a crime that would bring a higher charge and sentence... but who were actually innocent??? (Yes, it has happened before.)

Therein lies the problem for me, those that are wrongfully convicted and lose their rights.

Amen. That bothers me too.

And, when it comes to those who have been rightfully convicted... we should still ask,
What is the basis of denying a convicted felon their Constitutional right to vote???
Aren't they still citizens of the United States? Don't they still pay taxes after paying their debt to society? Do they not have a right to representative government?

I agree, if they have paid their debt they should be able to vote.

The Right to Vote

Texas is one of 18 states that restores a convicted felon's right to vote immediately after the completion of the incarceration, supervised parole and supervised probation periods. Felons who receive a pardon for a conviction will also have their voting rights restored immediately.

Oh, come on now. I think you have Texas and California mixed up.
