1700 years of silence is a pretty powerful argument.

The only rejoiner is "make believe."

Re: Doctrinal Conference 2009 (Atlanta West)

I have never heard this argument before except from a Calvinist. You mean to tell me you don't believe anyone was saved for over 1000 years??? History is filled with people that were burned at the stake and their heads cut off and used for torches and raped and killed all because they spoke in tongues and baptized in water by immersion in the Name of Jesus. What in the world is wrong with some of these people that can't READ HISTORY??? Maybe they are reading Catholic or Church of Christ history or something!

The history of Israel is a type of the church. There was a point in which Elijah thought he was the only one who had not bowed the knee to Baal (false doctrine).

The despairing prophet's hyperbole mixed in with perhaps his self pity doesn't really equate to the fact that there simply was not an "Acts 2:38 church" for around 1,700 years of church history.

Sorry AtlantaBish, I can't tell if your post is tongue-in-cheek or not. Do you really believe this to be the case??

To whom are you referring?

Pel, I really hate to burst your proverbial bubble, but it is knid of difficult to believe that Acts 2:38 was not adhered to for 1700 years. I could be wrong, but it is hard to imagine my friend.
