Re: Old way of Holiness Standard do we need to kee

I still say that if someone has problems telling someone's gender because of what they are wearing below the waist, perhaps they should look higher up on the body.

Re: Old way of Holiness Standard do we need to kee

i have seen it so many times where immature, but good hearted, brothers and sisters would reprimand young people or new converts because of their outward appearance. Sometimes it was warranted and sometimes it wasnt but I just wish that dress, hair length, etc were not viewed so stringently as standards of holiness.

I can think of VERY few times it would be warranted, short of someone walking into the place completely naked.

I have also seen very few instances where the people doing the correcting were good hearted, rather they were just used to feeling superior.

Wasn't I beaten with the self righteous stick of shame when I made the same observation? lol

I'm talking about normal people, not freaks.

I was speaking to those who believe that any woman wearing pants looks male or wants to look male.

But I know what ya mean!

Re: Old way of Holiness Standard do we need to kee

Unfortunately so true. Case in point a while back when I mentioned that my daughter was talking about the Holy Ghost during one of her softball games, one legalist asked what my daughter was wearing. Forget the fact that some of my daughters teammates experienced salvation Acts 2:38 style and others were exposed to the gospel of Jesus Christ, the only thing this guy was concerned about was the wardrobe.

They don't say it, but a legalist believes their wardrobe code is a heaven or hell issue. One can tell by their words, actions, and attitudes.

My wife would have me committed if I went that far... lol

There are a lot of lines I cross, but the gender line is one I am comfortable that I will not be crossing.

Re: Old way of Holiness Standard do we need to kee

56 pages of discussion on this topic which I haven't read but I'll just make a comment in connection with the thread title.

Old way holiness standards we need to keep:
  • Separation from the world and unto God.

  • Consecration.

  • Modesty.

  • Submission to God, His will, plan and purpose and to those who are in positions of leadership over us.

  • Prayer & fasting.

These things should just about keep a person living straight enough, I think.
