Re: Michele Obama's dress

Ahem. Just for the record, I would hate to have some of my outfits reviewed by the general public.

And btw--I NEVER wear jean skirts with "bobby socks" and tennis shoes. Goodness. DON'T speak for all of us.

Re: Michele Obama's dress

Miss Bratt -- you are right - - Queen Elizabeth is exactly what it reminded me of. It just wasn't suitable for daytime and for the cold. She should have been like the rest of her family in a beautiful designer coat!

I noticed when she walked in the parade that she kept trying to hold the coat together - - it wasn't made to be a topcoat! She was probably cold.

It was a good try toward sophistication, but fell short. Michelle Obama needs to go with a more tried and true designer if she wants that really polished look. Up close and personal, the detail of her dress was pretty, but the big picture was not quite there. For one thing, her coat was too long. It should have only been slightly longer than her dress, rather than several inches. Yep--she should have been showing more leg!!!!!

Secondly, the collar was weak--it needed a higher, more dramatic, Jackie-O approach. And it looked light, even though it probably wasn't. Looked a little silly for such a cold day.

Finally, the green gloves were awful. I would NEVER wear green and yellow/gold together. She should have punched up the gold/yellow with the purple she loves in the form of gloves & clutch. (Although I didn't mind the red purse--at least there was a little brightness there.) The purple would have been a great contrast.

Overall, I give it a 6.5 out of 10, and it was a good try. It really didn't reflect her personality at all, and was something I would expect to see Queen Elizabeth in--except there wasn't even a smart hat.

As for the girls--they were cute as buttons. LOVED the bright colors and miniature suits. I still don't know why no one had on a hat!
She stayed in the blended color range (yellow/sage). The sage leather gloves were perfect! The coat length was fine for the dress! I have several and that is my style. My daughter gave me a red one for Christmas - same length. Classy, classy, classy!

The jewel-collared, pale yellow lace coat, sweater and sheath dress ensemble featured a clever hidden layer of tulle, Pashmina and Swiss wool lace to help the first lady stave off the cold.

Agree to disagree!

I thought she looked classy, too--for a 90 year old. She's young and confident, and her outfit didn't reflect it, IMO.

If you have any ensembles like that, you should shorten the jacket a little, so the dress is only slightly shorter, that way it looks more like a set. Kind of like sweater sets are usually about the same length, with the cardigan only slightly longer.

Anyway. Just opinions!

I don't really like yellow and green together. Even though they "match", I don't like the combination. Red and yellow or purple and yellow are better!

LOL!

I think she could have pulled it all together with a nice designer coat in a cool color!

And PO - the gloves did look good (matching wise), but those shoes????

I'm not. I got home a little while ago and am answering e-mails and reading the news. I saw it on the internet.

I love leather gloves - Emerald green, Cobalt blue and black leather - I am a leather girl! I LOVED HER GLOVES AND NOW I WANT SOME SAGE GREEN GLOVES. Too bad I gave my sage wool coat away.

I have to agree on the shoes. She should have done suede pumps in the same sage as her gloves.

I love red under a black coat with black leather gloves! Wore that outfit to a funeral a couple of winter's ago. Did I say that I LOVE leather?!!!

Au contraire!!! Not a 90 year old outfit. Classy for her height and body build! She did good on that one!! The necklace was also awesome and a perfect choice!

Nope, she doesn't have to shorten the jacket for this dress. She would have to if she was wearing silk.

I love the yellow and green together - I have those colors in my house. They are the colors in my son's drum room - popped with black lacquer furniture.

I am a classic traditionalist!
