I agree. And YES He does.

Rev,
The thing I take issue with is this attitude that some shortcoming of the UPC or the ministry in general is to blame for everything.
No one can lay their lack of success at the feet of their lack of a mentor.
Find one.
Pray and seek God until something happens.
If you have the passion and persistence, things will open up. Someone will take you under their wing.
There are NO excuses.

It has been mentioned on this forum before about men who felt a call of God on their life, but when they approached the pastor about it, they were told that God would reveil it to them (the pastor) if they were called into the ministry.
Too many times it can become political. I some cases family members (sons and son-in-laws) were gleefully promoted and mentored, while non-family members were dismissed.
What does one do if their pastor doesn't appear interested in mentoring them? Do they find another church or pastor?
Who determines if one indeed has a call of God on his life?

Ya gotta love it. Make a comment to my personal experience and get told I'm just a loser and it's my own fault. Not much more to say after that, now is there?

This is why some preachers develop more preachers than others.

Perhaps if the one who feels the call, goes out and teaches bible studies, brings the lost to church, ministers anyway possible they will succeed in the Kingdom.......Yes it is great to have a mentor.....I've been blessed, but my mentor lived in another state from where I lived. His mentoring was my phone or mail or visiting. He helped me tremendously, but it was not an everyday thing. I had to take a few (quite a few ) lessons in the school of hard knocks. When I wanted to teach or preach I found someone to teach Search for Truth. It's amazing how if you ask the Lord to lead you to a hungry soul, He'll do just that.

Spoken like a person that does not to mentor anyone. No one is complaining about not having a mentor as an excuse for anything. God moves everything, except mans will. The fact is that there are many, many young ministers that will have a rough time making it in the UPC or others orgs alike with out the right direction.
The point is that that some of the more popular preachers in this movement would have been fine without mentors. But they would not be names you know or people you care about. Everyone, in business or ministry needs a mentor of somesort. I have used the bad examples and a mentor to me at times. Taken others drawback and downfalls and learned from them. But the truth is that not only do mentors teach and imput into the younger ministers lives, but they also open doors too. Some people close doors to ministers, some people open doors for them.
