There are various opinions on this topic.
I was taught that just because a couple might have sinned in their relationship, or be living in a sinful situation, it doesn't mean that they should just break up. In fact, Paul states:
1 Corinthians 7:8-9 (ESV)
8 To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am. 9 But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
Couples and/or individuals who find it hard to have self-control concerning their sexual needs are admonished to marry. Not only for the sake of personal sanctification, but to increase the power of their witness, and to provide a more stable home. Of course, this isn't saying that one should only marry for this reason. However, it is a key indicator that one is intended to marry.
Just something I was taught in church. But this an entirely different subject.
