Re: What is the Purpose of Spirit Baptism?
The price of redemption was paid at the Cross, redemption is applied through repentance, baptism in Jesus' name, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost.

Are you saying that the redemptive blood of the Lamb isn't applied to the baptized (in Jesus name) individual until that individual speaks in tongues?

Astounding!

If a person believes that the Holy Ghost Baptism is the birth of the Spirit and that the Holy Ghost Baptism is always accompanied with speaking in tongues ---yes.
It's tongues or hell,
even if the person believes in the death burial and resurrection,
has asked Jesus Christ into his life,
has had his life radically transformed,
has been baptized in the "proper amount of water"
has had the "proper" words spoken at the time of baptism.
Any and all of the above experiences are worthless unless the person speaks with tongues somewhere in that process.

That is the teaching of some OP's, that justification/salvation/regeneration/cleansing from sin are not complete until all three steps are completed.

It weakens the redeeming blood of the Lamb, doesn't it?

There are a number of purposes of Spirit baptism but the most important is the new birth and becoming "in Christ".

All of my life I've been led to believe that the Holy Ghost (tongues) was the outward evidence of the Spirit dwelling in a person. However, recently, I've heard several ministers state that the baptism of the Spirit is not a sign of salvation.

That's surprising that this is new to you since you've been posting on AFF from the beginning alongside of many one-steppers who believe that at faith in Christ and repentance (which some of them say is one in the same) a believer receives the indwelling Spirit of Christ. None on this site as far as I can remember have ever explained why someone would go on to receive the baptism of the Spirit with the evidence of tongues once they have believed and received the Spirit at faith and repentance except to say that being "filled" with the Spirit is different than being "baptized" with the Spirit but I'm not sure that I actually discussed that issue with someone on AFF or maybe it was on The Good News Cafe. I do remember talking to MOW about it in a very very very long thread that he started.

Is it a sign someone is saved? Is it a sign someone is justified? Or is it just an experience?

All three, imo.
