God has a knack for trusting His kids so that if we say we believe something, He thinks that we can handle the package that comes along with the power those beliefs bring...so when the tests/trials/shake up occurs, our faith is to be built up especially if we live in His word
This is one reason why believing in false doctrine is so dangerous...God will allow us to suffer the consequences of believing in heresy because he trusts us to be able to handle it...when those beliefs fail the same tests of faith, then, through His grace, we can recover from the harm our beliefs and actions cause...and our faith can still become stronger through the truth of His word...
IMHO

Even the Lord told Simon the Lucifer desired to have him, that he may sift him as wheat. Sifting is a shaking process, more or less.
Trials come, trials go. Faith remains if it was firm to begin with.
Faith is not proven in whether God answers your prayer requests; it is proven by what you do until He does answer.

You had me thinking, "great post" until that last paragraph. First you say that God allows us to handle certain beliefs, but the person who you say believes false doctrine, doesn't or is not aware that they believe false doctrine, so how does that make us who think we have the truth different from anyone else? Why on earth would the Lord allow someone in a search for truth to believe or keep believing false doctrine? That being said...keep reading...
Most every human being on the face of the earth along with their unique way of looking at and seeing and defining things, has something wrong with or is a might inaccurate in what they believe, including you and me...but especially me. (did you get my little...double entendre there...?)
No man/woman has the ultimate truth, that would in wise, make him/her ultimately perfect.

I am not sure what to do with those people because while they appear to be so fickle and shallow, I have absolutely no clue what is going on with them on the inside and outside the church. I suppose I do well to just let them be.
Another thought hit me that when people compliment my mom on how well she raised three strapping boys by herself, she gets even indignant and makes sure that person knows it was the Lord and the Lord only who did it. Nowadays they only compliment her on two of her sons instead of the three.

If this is true then they are idiots. If it is not true and you are jesting...I would say that your mother has truly raised three wonderful sons.

That is why I said it was dangerous to go into false doctrine...if the qualifications are not made to indeed identify false doctrine...God will let us go on our merry little way (with us ignoring our spirit-sense) and let the storms of life hopefully point us back to truth...
I was taking for granted that to indeed go into false doctrine one must have allowed the fail-safe testing of spirits and Word of God to bcome a lesser voice in preference to that "new" or "novel" idea...
