No need to wonder ... it was shameful not wear one.

I have not done an exhaustive anthropoligical study of every day life in the New Testament days but I imagine many aspects of it would be shocking to 21st century Americans and Pentecostals in particular.
It would rock their world CC1. This notion of trying to relegate God's timeless principles into late 1800's and early 1900's Western societal norms is the reason we have this big mess.

Did that matter to Him?

It was a sin to them to heal and work miracles on the sabbath. If he denounced that belief as being sin then would a little shame have mattered?

C'mon now,
Jesus did not have a beard so they could not have plucked His beard.
He had been arrested after dinner and by then He had grown a little stubble which the Roman soldiers plucked out with the tweezers they had in their pockets.

It was MAN'S (the Rabbis') interpretation that it was a sin to heal on the Sabbath. If it were a miracle and God performed it, then who were they to question God? That was why it was so important for them to claim His power was not of God.

Exactly, so if that "sin" was of man and wrong then why would it be hard to believe that he would shave even though man said it was "shameful"

There's the answer Sam! They "cast lots" with tweezers! I thought it was a little stone all this time!!!

Actually for males I think old time Oneness Pentecostals have picked about 1963 and have tried to stop the clock there. A man should have hair above his ears and preferrably swept back and kept in place with grease (or hairspray that is not obvious). Add a black suit with a white shirt and you are there!
