Staysharp, you mentioned having moved past the teachings of the UPC. As a person who has left do you feel that you have progressed down the slippery slope into false doctrine and how do you feel about the UPC now that you are looking from the outside?
Well, I currently visited a singles conference in Memphis and walked in as Stoneking started preaching. The first thing out of his mouth was..."have u ever felt like you've been someplace you haven't? U know why? Cause your angel went before you. I learned this from Bro. Barnes..."
I sat there in stone silence and couldn't believe my ears. I felt completely disconnected from the spirit which operated in that meeting. It's as if I was looking from the outside in. Like I was in a dream as a spectator. I felt no spiritual connection whatsoever.
IMO, the UPCI is a troubled organization on the verge of spiritual adultery.
Delta, I agree that "extra biblical teaching" is not something any of us want to dwell on. However, I don't consider it "extra-biblical" for the older women to teach the younger, and older men teaching the younger. That's very biblical. I'm not advocating unbiblical standards such as make-up, jewelry, uncut hair, etc... but certainly providing advice and wisdom on how a Christian ought to present themselves is within the duties of community. Teaching God and His ways is not so abstract that it never gets close to home. I pity the day.
I've discipled people who voluntarily ask questions concerning what we are talking about. They want to know! It's not creating law, it's sharing wisdom. All within the bounds of being biblical.
I agree that there needs to be teaching on modesty, particularly from older women to younger... but we seem to have such a hard time teaching/advising, and not dictating.

Wow, I hadn't heard about that belief of Stonekings? He believes that he has knowledge or perception from an angel that goes before him?

Yes, this has been his teaching for many years. He preached years ago at MS campmeeting (I know, I was there) he said he was on an airplane and saw himself sitting on the wing smiling at him...it was his angel and he knew he was gonna be ok. He worships angels. The entire message in Memphis was about how the angels follow him.
He also said that many strange this have been happening to him since he was 'raised" from the dead. He failed to mention the months he stayed in ICU...

So looking back on the UPC do you wonder how you could have been so blind?

I believe God is bigger than an organization and we should not stereotype any individuals. God does move within this organization, however he moves in the hearts of individuals, he doesn't cast out people just because they are associated within a wicked movement in ignorance. If that were the case, he would have destroyed the entire nation of Israel.
