Yes...and I am quite sure that Jesus was ego driven when he stood on the mountain to be seen by all!

He found the best spot to let his voice be heard!

Yes Brett but think of all the tv preachers that don't have that reputation: Billy Graham, Jack Hayford, GE Patterson (deceased), Jerry Falwell (deceased), D James Kennedy, and others. TV didn't necessarily turn them into egomaniacs.

I know ego-maniac preachers with 25 people in their congregation.

I always wondered what the difference is in someone like a Jack Hayford and others. If you have ever watched Hayford they might at the end ask for a donation, but it's never a hard sell like "if you want a blessing donate X amount to this ministry" nor does he weave giving to HIS ministry into the preaching.

He seems genuinly interested in just delivering the word to those that watch while with some others it's hard not to separate the constant call for sowing a monetary seed from the actual word

Yup, as I said before ego can be just as much a part of standing on a platform or behind a pulpit in front of a crowd as it would be appearing on TV.

So what, being ego-driven is only for televangelists? I remember growing up hearing how a minister can tell he's really made it if he's preached at GC or YC or some other large gathering.

I think a few of them may also be ego-driven. Not many, but I bet there are a few who think they've achieved it all because they've preached at GC or some other event.

It's asinine to say ego is only for the televangelists. Yet another reason the article is so flawed.

Absolutely, but for every one of these men who handled it well, I bet you could name me a dozen that didn't. Not that all of them fell or went into huge problems, but they didn't handle it well.

Some things just seem to create a ripened atmosphere for such issues. TV is not the only thing that does.

Maybe they were that way BEFORE going on TV? Maybe having large congregations played to their ego too, or preaching a conference. Should we do something about those too?

Absolutely. Can you imagine their egos if they were broadcast on television?

Some of them might even grow from it and really have enlarged egos.

I also know people that consider anybody who takes a strong stand, has an opinion and conviction and holds to it as an ego-maniac.
