I believe I have a friend who attends his church and I think the UPC Pastor here used to be Youth Leader under him.

I've known Scott for most of his life.

I don't know, but AM will probably preach his funeral since he was out of the Alex. church.

My Son-in-law and he exchanged pulpits quite often. In fact, Scott was scheduled to preach for my son-in-law in a week or two.

He will be missed.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but it is my understanding that Brother McManus came to the Lord in the Plano church when AM was the pastor there.

In reality, I guess that it doesn't really matter where he came to the Lord..... just that our prayers and thoughts are with the family.

Below I have pasted a newspaper article from the local Greenville newspaper about Pastor McManus.

Seeing his age and knowing now that he is out of POA I feel that I should know him. He is just three years older than myself and I went to High School just fifty miles from Alexandria. However I just don't recall anything other than his name being familiar.

As a motorycle rider myself I am so very aware of how easy some tragedy like this can happen.

Church, community remember pastor

By JANELLE STECKLEIN
Herald-Banner Staff

GREENVILLE — A local pastor killed Friday will be remembered for his love of people and life, his laugh and his smile, friends and colleagues said Saturday.

“(The Rev. Scott McManus) loved everybody,” said the Rev. Lee Wells, associate pastor and long-time friend. “It didn’t matter who they were, where they were from. Everyone was important to him.”

McManus, 51, pastor at Living Word Church in Greenville, died Friday after being thrown from his motorcycle while driving along Interstate 30 service road. According to witnesses, a pickup truck traveling eastbound on the service road crossed over the centerline. McManus swerved to avoid the accident and was thrown from his motorcycle, reports say.

Funeral services have been scheduled for at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Family Fellowship Church under the direction of Coker-Mathew Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation is Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

As word of his death spread quickly Friday, people — perhaps fittingly — began arriving at the church building McManus helped envision and create more than four years ago, Wells said.

“This building that we’re in is a dream of his that the church would be a lighthouse to anyone in the community,” Wells said.

The number of people who came by to express their condolences showed how much McManus’ life affected the people around him, Wells said.

“That shows what an impact he has had on everybody in this community,” he said. “He had a heart for Greenville and he had a heart for people. He wanted the best for everyone he met.”

One of McManus’s daily goals was to make each person’s life was a little bit happier, Wells explained. People always knew McManus was in the area by his “his obnoxiously loud” laugh, Wells said.

Jerry Speight, executive director of the Hope Center of Greenville, said McManus’ smile made him stand out.

The two men had worked together on several occasions and Speight said he was shocked when he heard of McManus’ death.

“He was a really nice guy,” Speight said. “He was a very, very special man. He always had a cheerful greeting for everyone he met.”

Outside of church, McManus was active in the Greenville community having served on the City of Greenville’s Airport Board for at least six years. He was also active in DrugFree Greenville’s Red Ribbon Week.

“He was very supportive of the programs,” said DFG executive director Sharon Kroncke. “Not only did he get involved, but his whole church did.”

Kroncke said McManus was an exceptional man who lived what he believed and led by example.

“He was the kind of guy who lived every moment to the fullest,” she said. “Whatever it was he was doing, he was totally engaged in it. It was an honor to know him. It was a terrible loss. I’m very lucky to have had the opportunity to know him.”

Wells said McManus’ death has left a void in not only his life, but the lives of those he touched.

Wells said he will be leading the services today for the 250 member congregation, but the area presbytrer, who arrived after hearing of McManus’ death, will be giving the sermon.

“God has a plan and we’re seeking to find understanding in it,” Wells said. “He will be terribly missed and this world has never seen a man like Scott McManus and will probably never see another.”

Bro. & Sis. Mangun will be attend the funeral. Bro AM will be speaking. Bro. McManus came into the church in Plano while Am was pastor there and then came to Alex with them when they came.
