Re: Hating the holidays?

Yes, dressing is definitely worth the trouble, unless you're going to an airport.

How about Turkey?

Do we really like it? I have no use for the white meat on the bird at all. I like eating a wing or a leg. (And yes... I know the wing is considered white meat but it sits down at the bottom in all the grease. LOL)
I like turkey, we also have ham, which I don't like. I do prefer the white meat.

I love the shopping, the decorating, the gift wrapping -- even doing my son's piles of laundry that he brings home from college. It's just good to have everyone together.
Some people will even pay $7 for pine nuts. Good grief.

Well we would get along great then wouldn't we? You wouldn't catch me sneaking some of that white meat you love so much.

That brings another question.

My wife is making a ham this year... and she is putting pineapples and all that sweet stuff on it. Yuck. If I wanted a ham flavored candy bar I'd buy one. Ham should be ham... no pineapples... no cherries... no brown sugar. Ham. Just ham.

Who likes all that sweet stuff on their ham?

Love the turkey too.....one of my favorite things to do with leftover turkey is to make a grilled turkey, bacon sandwich - it's great!

Re: Hating the holidays?

I don't have a husband or kids, but I love the holidays. My Christmas decorations are already up.

My extended family doesn't have any more emotional land mines at Christmas than any other time of year, they don't do a big to-do (paper plates, not china, and small gifts under $5), and I live in an area where traffic doesn't increase dramatically because of holidays, so those may make some difference, but I doubt it. The seasonal change to colder weather, the possibility of snow, Christmas music in the stores and on the radio, decorated houses, church programs, and the excitement of the kids all play a part. And I have quite a bit to celebrate in December besides just the holidays, so that makes this time of year exceptionally merry for me.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It is to cut the salt content I think. I use to love fried ham sandwiches, but avoid a lot of food now with high sodium content. Keep the fruit for the fruit salad.
We raised hogs years ago, so that really kind of put me off ham and sausage, but I LOVE bacon!!!!!!!!!!!

The lady folk are about moments... feelings... and emotions and whether it be birthdays, thansgiving, christmas, or the annual vacation they busy themselves from occasion to occasion year in and year out attempting to capture moments... recreate feelings and moments of the past and create new ones that we can all work to reproduce annually for the rest of our lives.

Sorry to be so frank about it all but I've put a lot of thought into it and that's pretty much what it boils down to.

This is why your question is going to fall largely down these lines... Women... No. Men... Yes.
Not necessarily. Although there are some parts of the holidays they don't like, my husband and sons enjoy them, too. They particularly like the food.

*I* was the one to suggest cutting back a bit this year, but the whole family objected. The holidays are a big family time for us, and they're special.

Yes, we do make a lot of good memories, what's wrong with that? We still have a lot of memories that we laugh over, and memories DO bind a family together.

God himself instituted a lot of 'remembrances' and feast days. It is what you make of it.

eta: Oh, and my brothers..... LOVE the holidays.
