••I have one, thank you, and it's been a riveting week, complete with a brain surgery for my son, an incredible service this morning with many new people (everything we do is for new people) and music that was off-the-charts, my other son who's golf scoring average his freshmen year of college qualified him to advance to the post-season, and preparation for a new series featuring the music of the Beatles, in which we will be sending direct mailers to the entire city. So I'm sure you'll be happy to hear that I already have a life!

I have a feeling the way his thought processes works notofworks will next post he does not allow score to be kept at any church sports events so no one will feel like a loser! LOL
••How nice to know that you support the physical abuse of women and find jokes about it funny. This is why I would put an agnostic like Timmy, but never a Christian like you, on my church board.

Re: With one wave of the popes hand.

NOW, you KNOW it's not actual physical abuse that has anything to do with it at all. It is the satyrical humor that the slap represents. It is the turn of the punch line and you know that. Trying to make this out to be female physical abuse is a ruse and no one here buys it.

So, you're preparing for new series FEATURING music from the Beatles? Why not? They said they were more popular than Jesus Christ! I guess, in that context, it is quite fitting and it sounds like Timmy would fit in just fine as well.

I'm not trying to sell anything, so it's not necessary that you buy it. It still is what it is...it's a joke at the expense of a woman being slapped in the face. There's not a darn thing funny about a woman being slapped in the face. The only reason you're able to tolerate it is because the victim, in this case, is someone you despise.

Would you think it was funny if, rather than it being Pelosi, the joke were aimed at a black person? A person in a wheelchair? A person with cancer? Well, what the heck do I know...maybe you would laugh. At this point, I wouldn't doubt it. But you're still laughing at the expense of a woman being slapped in the face. If you think it's funny, that's your pathetic right to laugh. I never will.

As far as the Beatles go, last year, we did a month featuring Beatles music and more than 150 attended church for the first time in ages (many for the first time), and over 40 gave their gave their life to Christ. I looked at at many of them this morning as I spoke. So maybe you'll be able to rejoice over the change in the population of heaven rather than slamming our methodology.

Or then again, maybe not.

It would depend on the arrogance of the person. It would not depend on whether or not they were in a wheelchair etc. You just don't get it and that's OK, I guess. You have every right to not like the joke and I have every right to laugh at it and laughing I am! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

Regarding the 40 Beatles converts: If their lives are changed and they've surrendered them to Jesus Christ and are living overcoming (not perfect) lives, I rejoice!!!!

Come together....right NOW.......over me!

I can't say they meet all your qualifications, but thankfully, they won't be judged by those criteria. But they have started their spiritual journey and I'm confident they will soon be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ!

Surprised you would know the lyrics of a song of such a horrible group.

And I TOTALLY agree with you.....I DO NOT get it. Not at all. How anyone can find humor at the expense of a defenseless lady being slapped by a man, I just don't get that.

I guess you are just too intellectual and sensitive to get it. I really have a hard time believing you are seriously connecting the joke to abuse of females. I have to think you are just jerking our chains as nobody, not even you, can be that obtuse.

Just as I like Timmy but would not have him on my church board I like many of the Beatles songs and if the lyrics warranted it would have not problem singing them in a church setting. I am not quite sure there would be enough with appropriate lyrics to do an entire series of their music though! Particularly since one of my favorite Beatles songs is "Come Together" which has very..er...ah..interesting llyrics. I have read various explanations of them but don't know if anybody really knows.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Well, let's see....."Here's a joke...A man slapped a woman in the face! Oh hahahahahaha". No, no chain-jerking here.

"Obtuse" has several genres of meaning, but what you're saying in a lyrically more sophisticated way, is that I can't possibly be that dumb. Your vocabulary of insults is improving...last time it was "strange and bizarre". I'll add "Obtuse"!

Anyway, keep the insults coming. I can handle it and it's worth it.

It's actually quite easy to find applicable Beatles Songs. Last time it was:

"All We Need Is Love" (Obvious where you can go with that)
"Yesterday" (Don't live in you past. Start over and live a new future)
"Let It Be" (Paul's mother, named Mary died of cancer when he was 14. During the tumultuous Beatles years, he had a dream in which his mom, Mary, kept saying to him, Paul, just let it be)
"Hey Jude" (During John Lennon's divorce, his son, Julian, was deeply troubled. Paul wrote a tune, "Hey Jules, don't make it bad, take a sad song and make it better." So I spoke about taking the bad things of life and turning it into something great)
"I Wanna Hold Your Hand" (Spoke about relationships and asked the simple question, "Guys, remember what it was like to hold her hand for the first time? How long as it been since you couldn't wait to hold her hand?")

So now we're doing 5 more including "Blackbird", "Can't Buy Me Love", "Help", "Long and Winding Road", and "We Can Work It Out."

Next year, we'll do five more. By far, it's been the most effective thing we've ever done.

NOW, I know this kind of humor bothers you, but I don't think the imagery is of a woman or other minority or of someone with a disability being abused. I think it's the image of a pompous, self-serving politician who has been gorging at the public trough, pushing legislation which is against the wishes of the majority of the people, and who is completely disdainful of the "common people" receiving a "comeuppance" that satisfies our frustration.

I don't think NOW is just jerking our chain. I think he genuinely is bothered, even offended by this type of humor. I think he feels like the image of Nancy nude or being slapped or humiliated is contrary to the Spirit of Jesus and therefore should not even be joked or spoken lightly about.

Some of us don't really see it that way. It's just a difference in perception among us.

Then the frustration should be satisfied with something besides joking about physical assault. Are we really THAT barbaric? Seriously, what if it was a joke about sexually assaulting her? Would/could/should we laugh? I can't imagine anyone could, although clearly, I've already been shocked at what pentecostals laugh at. And if we couldn't laugh at a joke about sexually assaulting her, why would we joke about slapping her?

Here's another fact....I'm always told that I'm the only one that sees it this way. And it's not true. The last time this garbage started, several posted and agreed (after many pages of the verbal thrashing I took). As well, every time this starts, I get PM's and private emails from either posters or people that just read, thanking me for taking a stand.

Here's something I received from a lady within the last hour:

"I read the beginning pages of that thread. I agree with you. You are right in what you're saying. The joke is not Christ like and doesn't honor Christ."

That's a direct copy & paste.

Although this lady didn't say it, I've been told by others they don't wanna post because they know how hard some of you fellows will come after them. I guess I'm just "Obtuse" enough not to care how hard people come after me. It's actually quite energizing. I'd say at least a 4th, maybe a 3rd, of my posts have been the protesting of crass jokes against liberal politicians and mentally handicapped children.

Months ago, I read the joke that was posted here on this forum about the email with a naked Nancy Pelosi. Because I was told repeatedly that I was the "Oddball" in my protestations, I read the joke to my ministry staff. I didn't qualify it, preface it with any remarks...I just read it. No words can describe how disgusted they were. THEN, when I told them it was posted on a pentecostal/Christian forum.......whew.....it got ugly.

No matter how it's excused or justified, I believe it's wrong. Period.
