What are the odds of this passing in the Senate?

Given the slimmer party majority margin that the Senate has compared to the House, my hope is that it won't make it. Odds? Dunno.

So this 'forcing you to buy insurance' thing.... is it going to have income limits? My husband has insurance, but I don't because we can't afford to add me. Passing this bill isn't going to magically make us be able to afford it.

Re: Health Care Bill passes House

Ex-senate majority leader, Dr. Bill Frist, was the special speaker at our church this past Sunday. His message was mainly about how God uses prayer and trained medical people to perform miracles.

(The video of his message should be posted on www.christchurchnashville.org this week.)

Anyway, he made a quick blurb about the healthcare issue. He said that we have a moral obligation to help the millions of uninsured Americans, because it is a fact that the uninsured die sooner.

On the other hand, the plan that passed the house will require our children and children's children to work an hour and 1/2 extra each day just to pay for it!

Sounds like he did a good job.

Right, that's called "The Emergency Room".

I think we need to fix what is broken and not do a massive overhaul.

On Nov. 2, the Congressional Budget Office estimated what the plans will likely cost.
  • An individual earning $44,000 before taxes who purchases his own insurance will have to pay a $5,300 premium and an estimated $2,000 in out-of-pocket expenses, for a total of $7,300 a year, which is 17% of his pre-tax income.

  • A family earning $102,100 a year before taxes will have to pay a $15,000 premium plus an estimated $5,300 out-of-pocket, for a $20,300 total, or 20% of its pre-tax income.

  • Individuals and families earning less than these amounts will be eligible for subsidies paid directly to their insurer.

I honestly do not see this passing in the Senate. With all of the tea parties and the public out cry. Pelosi will be hanging her party out to dry in 2012. Well, if that's what it takes.

If this is true, that it's really going to force people to buy insurance, and that's how much it's going to cost.... it's going to BURY the economy. It would cost us an extra $400 per month. We don't HAVE $400 per month extra right now. If we did have to come up with that, it'd come out of the grocery budget, the gas budget, and the very, very meager entertainment budget. So less of our money would be going into the economy. And we won't be the only family in that position, most of the country will be affected the same way.

Not very bright when the economy is already so wobbly.
