I loved that service last night...among a very poor people...it must have been 100 degrees...many came from a farm area...the bathroom had no water...so you can imagine...
So I understand the situation in Brazil.... Now I wonder what my FIL's excuse is? LOL
One of the things that makes me angry is when Americans come to Brazil and criticize the people or the church...I have a hard time dealing with people that are so naive to think here is their land or think I should spend my them making our people look like Americans...
I generally work 16 hours a day! Mostly on Bible studies to send out, putting pictures on the forum for people to pray, then going to church, making visits, and all that involves missionary life…
I have never (we) had much money although I now live in a very nice home that was paid in full for us by a friend. However our people know that fact and are not jealous because they have followed our lives for over 40 years…some remember me washing clothes in the creek and cooking with wood stoves! Today I am so blessed but it bothers me when Americans come and tell me the people stink and this or that…especially if they make faces…
I have confessed….
Well I tried to find a good thought in this and could only come up with this thought, that they love America so much they want others to share in it, but when you said they were making faces as they disected what is wrong with that culture, I have to believe it was not out of love for the people.
I have found when folks don't have a true burden for souls they see what they consider "faults" instead of a work that God is doing.

All my missionary life I cringe when Americans want to come visit us for so many have offended the people by their expressions...and manners.
I really think anyone wanting to be a missionary should go to a good missions school first and those wanting to visit must remember THEY are the visitors...
Brazilians are sweet people and I deeply love them but I do not think myself better than them...or smarter than them...

Sister Alvear my husband was in the Vietnam war in 1967 to 1968 and he said that the viet cong ate a lot of fish and rice and you could smell them a mile away because of the food that they ate.He also said that the Americans stink to them because of what the americans eat due to all of the beef and pork that we eat. He also said that him and his troup of 5 or 6 stared eating like the vietcong so that they were less likely to get caught because of the American stink.I know it hurts when your brothers and sisters have a lack of love.We are commanded to love one another by God!!Gods children in your church are closer to him than the ones making unloving statements about thier brothers and sisters in Jesus.Love you sister.

You know that is true! We smell like what we eat to others!
I have no problem when someone says somewhere stinks...it probably does but I have a problem with the Americans that think (and not all think like that) that they are some kind of big boss...to a people that are less blessed...and the people pick up on attitudes..
I remember in one convention some BIG brand name preacher was sitting by me and I could not help but see his notes and he was writng a list of things that he saw that were wrong...
1. too much going in and out
2. too much talking..
and etc..
I reached over and said, Brother you do not know how far these people have already come...much farther than yours will have to go...they came from the depths of devil worship, from schools that have no rules so to speak, many have no education and it has never dawned on them they are making too much noise...
Yes, I believe in teaching and helping but not making it a point that I think I am from some place far superior than them...
lol am I ever on a roll...
and I am cooking...got beans on, meat loaf in the oven, chicken ready to fry, pork cooking, and potatoes peeled and eggs boiling....
