Re: The infallible Word of God?

Any other responses to the question, besides 13 hours and 48 minutes of video? (Yes, I did the math, assuming an 18 minute average! )

Why do you believe in those particular 66 books? You are clearly putting a huge amount of faith in the men who, centuries ago, picked them from among the candidates, and said these are God's Word.

Timmy,

If you really wanted to know, you'd watch the video.
The research, the proofs... personal experience aside, are weighty and lengthy and it would take a considerable amount of time to go through it all on this forum... I don't have that kind of time to put into a forum.

I personally feel that if you really wanted to know, you'd take the time yourself.

You're lack of faith, is something I can't change with a hundred posts on a thousand reasons why our wonderful Bible is Truth.

You're lack of faith stems from years ago someone telling you, you recieved the Holy Ghost when you didn't. It's about time you took ownership and laid that aside and sought the Lord again, in your adulthood.

And you know I say all that as a "forum friend" because we've always gotten along well.

Re: The infallible Word of God?

Leaving out all the pointless garbage, these books we have are the books that are supported by historical evidence and do not have internal contradictions. We try to base it on that, because it less likely books riddled with errors are going to be of God.

I watched all 13 hours and 48 minutes. There is no way I could present as good and thoughtful a case as these two did. Nor am I willing to spend the time to organize the info and post it. If you really want to know you this is a good starting point. Then get the tapes for the recent discussion called the Greer-Heard forum with Dan Wallace and Bart Ehrman (of Misquoting Jesus fame) on the reliability of NT manuscripts.

Timmy, all of the above is not why I believe the Bible is the word of God. God has backed up His word to me over and over again. That's all the proof I need.

1. I am watching the videos! It'll take a while.

2. I have read many defenses before, including info on how the canon was determined. Haven't seen anything yet to indicate it could only have resulted in the 66 books, and could not apply to some other books, and could not have let some uninspired things slip through. It was a human process! It could very well have been flawed.

3. My lack of faith stems from opening my eyes, and seeing that many of the statements in the Bible are not true. Some choose to ignore or explain away such untrue statements. I don't see any benefit from doing that, and in fact, it has resulted in many deaths. E.g., sick children die because their parents believed the promises of healing. (I don't see how that can be disputed, but I bet it will be.)

4. We will always get along well!

Scriptures that would seem to contradict each other.

Care to expound? How about an example?
