Re: Family History/Lineage

Well, let's see. Fast story on my daddy's side. My sister has the portfolio and is still mad that I wanted to go shopping and didn't care - BUT, anyhoo - they hailed from a small village in Poland.

The neat thing was she had already been searching his side for a number of years and when they did some AIM work they stopped in a small Catholic church and found the person they were looking for in the registry. Small world!

Don't remember what my sister said about them coming here, but they owned much land south of San Antonio - ranching mainly. My father was an excellent roper and a gentleman of a cowboy. When he died he was on the front page of the newspaper. The men in town were quoted as saying, "If you gave him your money you could guarantee he would take it to the bank."

On my mother's side - Wow, lots. They hail from Germany. Moved and help to found the Canary Islands. One of her relatives was Jewish and helped fund the American Revolution. I can't remember his name.

They ended up in San Antonio owing much property which is now the river walk. We operated the first post office downtown.

The town I grew up in was founded by my great-great-great-great-great uncle. Is that five? I just remember it being a five. lol We have a marker on the town square.

My mother's father's brother was the original owner of Man-O-War. Maybe that's why I love horses. Probably not, but rather a romantic idea - would make a great movie - ya think? Oh, he's in Seabiscuit. lol

During the depression my grandmother was falling on hard times and wanted to borrow money from her family. She didn't want them to know they were struggling, so they rented a limo and a black driver, drove to Virginia and were soundly sent back. They opened a Mercantile and survived somehow. lol

Re: Family History/Lineage

While I was searching our family heritage, my husband had a conversation about if we could talk to 3 people no longer living, who would we want to talk to. The conversation put limits on ( only one Bible character,( not Jesus). He said he would want to talk to Adam, Socrates and His Great Grandfather. Well while I was searching documents in the INTERNET, I came across two letters from his Great Grandfather that a family member had posted. So, in a way my husband got to talk to his Great Grandfather!!!! He did not have any luck with Adam or Socrates.

Re: Family History/Lineage

One of my grandfathers first cousins did some research.

Dad asked him about it and he told dad that he "quit looking"

Dad pressed him as to why and he replied

"found a horse thief!"

I don't know my families history, they were all Alabama country folks is all I really know.
My Grandfather Ray was a carpenter and He lived between Grovehill and Thomasville,AL.
My grandfather Quintiss Barre was a barber in Sweetwater,AL. and both grandmothers didn't work public jobs.
