Re: Reduced Welfare Benefits for Poor Grades

Definitely do not agree with this. This would not benefit the kids, it isn't the kids fault that they are depending on help. Some people really do need this help ! Of course there are those adults that abuse this help and it is those kids that would probably be abused by parents if they were the cause of the decline in help.

Re: Reduced Welfare Benefits for Poor Grades

Connecting food to grades sounds like a bad idea... but then, I am not an advocate for public education nor public welfare.

Re: Reduced Welfare Benefits for Poor Grades

I absolutely do NOT support this idea. If people NEED food and/or shelter, that benefit shouldn't be based on ANYTHING except their need for it. Ridiculous.

I'm aghast at the idea--and I can't believe you (JD) would even consider it. Did you have your Wheaties this morning??????

I'm not an advocate of public education either, BUT it was instituted for a good reason: to serve children who lack parents or guardians who can either teach them or pay for their education. It's necessary.

I want welfare to be controlled better, but I would not want it abolished. What an awful society we would be if we didn't make sure those in poverty received assistance!

Well, I personally think elements of it are a good idea. If we leave grades out how about using general attendance? I have no problems with tying a parents welfare to actually making sure their kids attend school.
