Re: The Primary Purpose of Prayer is...
To communicate with him and to be transformed into his likeness. When we are in Him then we will be able to ask what we will and he will do it. AS long as our abiding is in Him.

Re: The Primary Purpose of Prayer is...
our father who art in heaven
hallowed be thy name
(first off to worship God)
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
(Next to pray fo God's will to be known and done. Some of his will we know already, ie, he is not willing that any are lost)
Give us this day our daily bread
(we are to ask him for our needs)
And forgive us our debts and we forgive our debtors
(we are to repent, and forgive in prayer)
lead us not into temptation, deliver us from evil
(self explanatory)
so, that is purpose of prayer
btw, I didn't vote on the poll, did see my choice there

Re: The Primary Purpose of Prayer is...
Prayer is intimate fellowship with Jesus Christ. Talking to him about whatever we would talk to our best friend about. It is asking for things. It is worshipping him. It is where we can be very passionate about our love for him.

A good portion of my prayer time is praise and worship.
I think it matters to ask when we have a need or want, especially since that is what we are told to do.

Transformation and abiding... Quite subjective is it not?
We know because his word states it.
Many feel they are indeed abiding and ask without results they ask for. So does it mean they are not abiding in him? I think not. The fact is, our feelings are notoriously unreliable. More often than not we are wrong, or feel differently than fellow Spirit filled believers.
It's time we not only tell the Lord how we feel and express our desires to him, but also end each prayer with, "nevertheless not my will, but thine be done". It is only then that we can truly rest and abide in Him.

It is many things; but I believe it is primarily to become one with him in everything. it is the process of emptying out of ourselves and what we were to become like him in everything...God uses our situations and circumstances to bring us into a place through prayer where we are so identified with him in every thought..consumed by him..
A recent communication from the throne told me, "in everything give thanks for this is the will of God concerning you.."

Re: The Primary Purpose of Prayer is...
To conform our will to the will of God, conform our mind to the mind of Christ, to confess sin, and to lay our needs and desires before Him.

To bring our minds into accord with HIM, to understand where HE is working around us, and to bring us to alignment with HIM. When do we get our prayers answered? When we are asking for HIS will to be done, other wise were are asking "amiss". Not just saying "Thy will be done", rather coming to understand HIS will and actually praying those words.
